back in black sounds good, but borders on sterile.
i agree with this. i think 'let there be rock' is a good synthesis of of 'high voltage's dry, raw sound and 'highway to hell's bigness, so that gets my vote.

Back in Black
(i despise Mutt Lange but with AC/DC he actually knew how they should sound...mostly i just think that album has their best stuff and the best good vs. bad ratio...)

I'd say Powerage is the best lp overall, but I still think Highway is the best recording.

Strictly from a sound recording standpoint, I'm going to stand up for Stiff Upper Lip. Not that the classic albums are far behind, but there's something very intimate about the results of the engineering/production of AC/DC's latest from 2000 -- probably related to their change in style since The Razors Edge.
That said, my favorite albums -- also very well engineered and produced -- Powerage and Highway To Hell come very very close.
I'd almost nominate Ballbreaker as well, but while Rubin's touch is rarely awful, I notice anything with his name in the credits always has a slight imbalance that favors the mid-to-lower frequencies.. not enough to ruin his work certainly, but enough for these ears to observe and note.
"99 Problems" by Jay-Z, for example, probably would have a very similar freq. spectral analysis as Ballbreaker, I'm guessing.
