You and me both, brother.
Muncie was inspirational. We wrote a song (or most of it) at sound check there. Ball (heh heh) State, IIRC.

Ball State was the show with Jawbox, which was the first time I saw you guys. The show at this little arts space with shellac was the deafening one. THe stage was about thigh high, and the Twin was on a chair, putting it right at ear level for us up front. Ouch.

13last night at the fireside they were playing tar (clincher) between bands - i told the soundguy that was wierd cuz tar had been coming up a lot lately. it was a night of classics. he started the night with mule (the first one), then tar, and went on to jesus lizard (liar). what a fun night - the legacy lives on.

14You know. I totally respect the 'well, that's that thing and it was there then and that's when we did it so so fuck' thing, but if you ever did decide to reform for a bit, well fucking hell, I'd be paying. In fact if you listed some people you wanted dead I'd sort it out for the sake of a Tar show. Is it totally a no no? Some of us didn't have the good sense back in those days you know.

15Hey, why are people so down on Toast? I've been putting it on a lot recently and enjoying it profusely.

17I miss Tar too. They didn't put out a bad record, so I agree that Toast is great.
One of the most painfully devastating rock songs I've ever heard is Short Trades, and one of the best shows I'll ever see in my life was Tar and Jawbox at Stache's in Columbus (Tar headlined that night). The live tracks on Clincher are damn good, but I wish there was a really good live recording out and around of them. Tar's an interesting band to consider, especially now that we seem (my word) to live in the current age of the song obsessed indie band. Tar had a sound....a very great and very unique sound. Seems to me that bands nowadays are way too concerned with the songwriting and forget all about what they sound like. Hopefully that makes sense.
Hail Tar.

18My favorite part about Tar is the ride cymbal. I normally hate ride cymbals but goddamn the ride cymbal on every Tar record makes me so happy.

19I saw Tar at least once at Washington University in St. Louis. I was never wildly sold on the recordings until I caught the live...
...now I wish more bands had those balls.
My only problem with them was that the first song I heard by them, 'Antler' (on that DGAFITS comp.) is also my favorite. When I asked them about it after a show, one of the guys remarked "oh, we probably played that song 3 or 4 times..."

20Great, immense band. Jackson is easily one of the thickest, moodiest guitar albums out there. Gauzy and shoegazy in the most punk rock way possible.
