FS: Steve s Travis Bean TB-3000 Wedge

hey russ or other electrical guy... is that same serial number written on the body anywhere, inside the control cavity or inside the neck pocket? it seems like a really high serial number considering the serial numbers of most of the other wedge guitars in the registry, and the fact that the unofficial TB website (which isn't always right) claims the TB3000's were made with serial numbers ranging from 11 to 56...

it makes me wonder if maybe somebody didn't grab the neck off a TB1000S or TB500 and put it together with that body... because the only TB3000 on the registry that has a picture has block inlays instead of dot. based on the serial number, it looks like it would have been a 1000S, cause the 500's don't even go that high.

i'm still trying to figure out how to come up with $4K... anybody know of a good bank heist that needs pulling? ;)

oh and hey walter, way to pollute the thread with your bullshit, assface!

I was thinking the same thing. I own a TB3000, and was real surprised to see that neck with such a high serial number, and dot inlays.

That neck has to be a 500 neck. I have seen 3000s, 1000s and 500s, and only the 500s had dot inlays. In addition to that, the serial numbers started at 11, not at 1. This might explain the high number.

The other explanation could be that this is a freak guitar and that it was made out of spare parts (a neck with a high serial number that was never put on a 500).

That seems to make the most sense, because the cavity that houses the electronics is in a different spot from mine. It's in a pretty awkward place, so it most likely means, this is the weird one, not mine.

The knobs also aren't stock, but that could have easily been changed by Steve or an earlier owner.

I don't know, what does everyone else think? Does Steve know more of the story behind this guitar?

The sight of this guitar really makes me want to learn to play!

Somehow the fact that your current rank of 'Ben affleck' coincides with this calibre of post seems amazingly appropriate. Or, how do you say, 5 stars?

Scott,

Nice catch.

Looks like it's a hybrid. 57 body and 1546 neck. Which would also mean that it's the highest numbered Wedge body anyone has ever seen.

Maybe it lends to the authenticity of the Keith Levine connection as he was pretty hard on his guitars. (See the PiL footage of him with a Valeno on American Bandstand hitting the cymbal with the headstock.)

I'll update the auction and the Travis Bean database in a minute.

Thanks,
russ

the 1000S guitars have dot inlays. the difference between the Artist and the Standard is that the Artist has block inlays and the Standard has dot, and the Artist has a carved body and the Standard doesn't.

it could be one of the necks that was left over when they closed down, which would make it one of the last necks they made.

whatever the deal is, i have a feeling it kicks ass. and it's a super-rare if not unique model, signed in an really cool-looking way, by a revered band, played on tour by steve?!?!?! run-of-the-mill TB1000's in okay shape sell for $2000 on ebay, and there were *way* more of them made, and not played by anybody in particular or signed.

plotting a bank heist as i type...

Thanks for the info. Very interesting. Hopefully everyone here understands that we're doing our best with all of these auctions. We're not usually in the business of selling things.

Those screen captures of PiL are really great. What is that from? Do you have the American Bandstand / Valeno video?

russ
If you have not seen that footage, track it down, it is the best TV performance by a band ever...
