Bruce Springsteen makes a sort of Broadway musical version of rock and roll (Nebraska notwithstanding), which he sells with tent-revival-like fervor at his concerts. Come to think of it, he's a lot like "The Music Man." No, this isn't a compliment.

"Rock sax" is never not ass.

Crapness on the edge of crap.

One time after high school double sessions, we walked into the locker room to "Born in the USA" blaring over the speakers. "What the fuck is THAT?" asked Junior, one of my teammates. Someone answered, "Bruce Springsteen." "Who?" June asked again. "You know," the reply came, "the BOSS." "Huh," Junior said, "well, the boss shoulda been an em-ploy-EE!" He later went on to tell me that Bruce Springsteen represents the quintessential white boy thing that blacks can never comprehend.

This seems ironic to me because I've always felt that Springsteen's shtick was so mannered and exaggerated that he might as well be performing in blackface.

And please, I don't give a fuck about "Nebraska," either. Like that makes up for all the shitty music this chump has foisted upon us. Why he's considered any better than John Cougar is beyond me. And John Cougar SUCKS.

one thing i find hilarious about springsteen is the notion that him playing rock music could in any way inspire the youth vote. i would love to know who it is that decided kids give two shits about springsteen.

ignoring that...

NOT CRAP.

My first post after being a long-time lurker is to vote for Mr Boss, not crap, esp in the 1970s, 'Spirits In The Night' "For You', 'Night', 'Candy's Room', 'Blinded By The Light', '10th Ave. Freeze Out'/ This music that I heard as a small child (along w/ Dylan) still has enormous power over me. I still remember my older sister being heartbroken because she couldn't go see him during the River tour in '80, but her rich friend could. I think my dad wouldn't let her sleep overnight for tickets or something. By 1985 I hated him, but everything up to and including Nebraska is first rate.
