but when I saw the Fall (or should I say Mark E. Smith and a lame back up band) at the Echo Lounge summer of 2003. They came out late after listening to two awful warm up acts, Mark E. Smith was drunk and warbling incoherently into his mic. On another occasion this might have been cool. Musically they sucked though, and I couldn't recognize any of the songs.

I had the good fortune of going gout with an ex-goth for four years. Thanks God. So: Bauhaus reunion (look, he's dancing as though he's flying), Placebo (christ, my heart's sinking as I write)...

in fact I don't think I can summon any more up without puking all over my pc, and I'm at work, so fuck that.

Geiginni -- That was the same show! Yes, Thelonious Monster was on the bill too. Old fogeys are we. Considering you were 15 a the show and I was 17 and we didn't feel out of place, I hate to think of who the band scored with that night.

how a band that could not play its instruments, had an awful sound, terribly bland nothingy songs and the worst fucking singer on the face of the planet managed to impress slint enough to give them a slot is utterly beyond me.

really really shamefully amateur stuff. maybe wouldn't be so bad in a relevant context like a bar, but at atp?. truly shocking.

the more i think about it the more i worry about the direction in which atp is heading.

down.

edit; i forgot to mention that the bass player was wearing an alkaline trio t-shirt. and played with one finger. on one string. on an epiphone thunderbird.

she was very good looking though.

Hmm, sounds like Los Angeles, the land of amateurish bands that get booked because they have a hot "bass player" who looks like she's never touched the instrument before the show...

Anyway, the worst band I've seen? Geez, I dunno, I've seen so many bad bands. Oh wait, this just came to mind. Last week, opening for Dos and Thurston Moore, two guys from San Francisco with a bunch of cheap modded/malfunctioning distortion pedals hooked into a mixer and other electronic devices, sat upon a table in front of the stage. The two guys just slapped at the pedals randomly for about fifteen minutes. There was no attempt to make anything musical (not even in the noise-as-music context). It was just 15 minutes of abuse. Then they stopped, and took easily 35 minutes "breaking down" a setup that should have taken no time at all, while they accepted congratulations from nitwits. They took so long that Watt and Kira got fed up with their nonsense and just started their set while the guys were still breaking down right in front of them.

Oh, by the way, Dos was great. Thurston Moore's performance that night is high on my list of "worst live shows ever". It was all spectacle, no substance. One "song" featured him screaming into a wildly distorting mic "Are you ready to fuck L.A.?" or something like that. Oh, I think I've got a candidate for the worst lyrics ever thread!

I think the worst musical act I've ever seen (besides the times I was actually *in* the worst band...) was Greenpot Bluepot. She was opening for US Maple and I just could not tolerate her art-school obnoxiosity.

I hated the show so much I ranted about it at a dinner the next night, attended by several other musicians.

I met Ms. Greenpot Bluepot about six months later. She is a perfectly lovely woman, but that performance I saw her do was the worst piece of pretentious tripe I have ever seen.

That clearly isn't a word, but goddammit it should be.

Also, I have no idea who this woman is, but if she managed to out-obnoxious and out-pretentious US Maple then I will assume she's nearly unbearable.
