Illegal drug: Crystal Meth

101
meth is very very crap.

this drug is so insidious i don't even know where to begin. i live in a small town on the central coast of california and i cannot by cold medicine with pseudoephedrine, nor lye (we make soap) over the counter. this drug is everywhere.

i personally know two children who have parents on this crap. the 9 yr old girl starves (my wife feeds her sometimes) and the 13 yr old boy loves his fucked up addict dad even though the dad is a uselss piece of shit who steals his son's money to buy meth.

this 13 yr old worked at our pumpkin and xmas tree lot to save money to buy season tickets for he and his dad to see the san francisco giants. his dad stole his money and blew it on meth.

the 9 yr old girl wanders around the street, hungry, at night walking her dog(s). her meth addict brother lives across the street from our pumpkin/tree lot and the meth addict mom lives with a meth dealing boyfriend a few miles away. the sight of food makes this girls eyes bulge.

it's very sad.

i'm sure there are many stories such as this in my area.

Have you spoken to DCFS about these two situations?

If someone is actively neglecting their children, for whatever reason, and you are aware of the situation, don't hesitate to call DCFS. I feel you probably have called, but if you didn't, please pick up that phone.

It's great that you have helped both of these kids.

the 13 yr-old lives with his mom and brother. the father has visitation rights. in short, it's "taken care of" in as much as something like this can be. they've been to court, etc. otherwise he is a good kid: good grades, likes to work hard, star soccer and baseball player.

the 9 yr-old goes to a school for "transitional" children. her school admin is aware that something is afoot. i have no "proof" it's meth but if you saw the mom you'd see. my wife has called the school to tell them what she heard from a neighbor. and the girl mentioned that a friend of her mom's got in trouble for "having lye."

i'm torn about the 9-yr-old. "starving" was too dramatic, i think, but she does gawk at food. she does eat (at school at least) and we give her food, which she eats incredibly quickly, here and there, and pay her to walk our dog. my wife sees this girl almost daily (she likes hanging out and her dogs play with our dog at the xmas tree lot). she's pretty good with dogs (for a 9 yr old) and calls herself a dog whisperer. her mom appears to be "functioning" and does not appear "abusive" in the general sense.

so what's worse? having a functioning drug addict for a mom; a mom who provides in some part; or, becoming a ward of the state and ending up being shipped who knows where? it's a tough call.

imho, we've done what we can for the 9 yr old: notifying the school (which has social workers involved), and making this girl's life a bit more pleasant for a few hours a week.

Cool, it sounds like you're helping these kids, and have checked into whether people are doing right by them.

This breaks my fucking heart.

My friends niece was recently arrested for making meth in a home with children. He told me that in the State of Arkansas this is a mandatory 25 years in prison without parole PER CHILD. I don't know if that is true but if it is it is the only thing The State of Arkansas has ever done right. It is sad when children are separated from their parents but some people have no business having kids.

Just eat mushrooms... All you'll be is happy.

That's a hard choice for even a deity to make, and there's no 100% answer. Sounds like you are being good neighbors though, and that's what counts.
