I've sat through Philosophy of the World maybe three times in total, but I have to say that Complete have given me infinitely more enjoyment than the Shaggs ever have.

If this band were teenagers from 198something and the lyrics were vaguely political, the world would be all over them.

I love that "beautiful" is misspelled on the video. Very fitting. I prefer the misspelling.

Remember 'The Beers'? Do you have those demos? Can you post them? I think they run on a parallel track, albeit with a little less conviction...

Unfortunately, no. Hess may be the man to ask.

I don't have the Beers. That was all Marquis. He even tried out for them I think.

I'd like this more if the bass wasn't so out of tune.

Did they actually put out a record?

If I had this record, I would play it a lot.

I just wanted to say a couple more things:

1) For my part, I am not and have not compared Complete to ANYONE. I've only drawn other people's music into the equation to make some distinctions. I don't think they sound enough like anything else I have ever heard to make direct comparisons.

Except: the singer is a missing link between Captain Beefheart and Jim Dandy. It had never occurred to me that one could exist, but there he is.

2) Insofaras any intellectualizing of Complete's music has been done by me, it is only in the service of explaining why I like it so much.

It is in the service of explaining a rush, same as every other time anyone tries to explain why they like something.

It's a little ridiculous to try to explain something as intangible and sublime as a rush. But when you want to give someone a jumping-off point, you have to do it sometimes.

2) I am not joking. I like this music a lot. I am not making fun of them. I don't think these guys are dumb, but it doesn't particularly matter to me one way or the other.

3) Complete is an EXCELLENT name for a band. It puts most other band names absolutely to shame.

They mention a recording during their interview, but I don't know if it ever came out. I haven't seen anything about them in old copies of Harder Beat (local heavy metal shit-rag), but my search so far hasn't exactly been exhaustive.

To clarify an earlier statement: musically, I don't think they're like Stick Men With Ray Guns. They just have the same effect on me.
