Adding eq to an already filtered (eq'd) signal is different to just adding eq once.

For a dude known for his amazing guitar noise he sure has a lot of pedals available at Guitar Center. Not to be a snob...

Some friends of mine that aren't even huge fans of the band claim MBV to be the best gig they ever saw.
I saw them once - late 1991 or early 1992 - and it was much, much better than I thought it would be.
I preferred their live sound to the Loveless studio sound.

Made me think of this story: He had been tormenting engineers for several months trying to find this guitar sound he had in his head. One day this highly hyped, soon to be ubiquitous digital pedal was released, some Boss or Roland thing. Alan Moulder (engineer) bought one and was fucking about with it in the studio. It had a reverse reverb preset. Kevin Shields heard it and pronounced the effect the exact sound he had been after. Alan Moulder, stunned and incredulous, told Kevin where the sound was coming from, and that every guitarist in the land would own it, and that it was just one of the pedal's presets. Unphased (badum-tsch), Shields insisted that his search was over and began using the preset effect on the recording.
I like this story, mainly because I am not Alan Moulder. Or Kevin Shields.

To be fair, they weren't particularly good live when they were still a regular, functional band[...]
You saw them?
