I'm going to seriously try building one after I finish the ribbon mic I'm building. That should be in about the beginning of may. I've been collecting parts and kind of casually pondering it.

im just reading the ribbon mic thread...
i cant wait to see the end result of both.
the ribbon looks too damn advanced for me, this 380 looks a little more my league.

Doug, you're one of my favorite forum members.
I'm very optimistic about the DIY M380, seems to me like they just took the headphones membrane and put it in this mic body.

Thanks dude.
I have a 380 and a TX-50 to compare with the drivers on the headphones. Hopefully if the drivers match up to the 380 then it will only be a matter of housing, mounting, and picking a good tranny.
Famous last words I know. So keep your fingers crossed and we'll all be rolling in comparitively cheap DIY 380's.

Doug, how do you find the TGX-50? I had one but have never tried the M380.
Although as I said I haven't tried one, it looks to me that these things are getting overpriced.
