My truck crapped out last week. It needs a new power steering pump, a new rack, new ball joints....all that shit. Total repairs would be $2700. The truck is a 1999 Ranger with 130K miles.I guess I'm going to buy a fucking Prius since this is Atlanta and I sit in my car for 1.5 hours every day, and burn a bajillion gallons of gas every year.Any Prius advice? I'm thinking a used 2010 will be around $17K.I REALLY don't want to deal with this.

Why no Prius? Everyone I know who drives one loves it.

King - if I may ask what were your final costs? Probably too late/cheap to pull the trigger this year but ready and willing next winter if it's not too drastic.

Superking wrote:Done and done - just ordered dedicated snow tires from Ashland Tire. Thanks for the recommendation! This was not inexpensive. But certainly much less expensive than my original plan to throw in the towel on winter and go buy a new car.Good job! Also, when you go to sell the Fit, you can tell any prospective buyer you've got the snow tires.

Driving my dumb little FWD sub-compact around like a fucking boss, in a snowstorm!Jesus, it cost an arm and a leg, but the difference is really night and day. I just muscled my way into a snowy, rutty parking space that I wouldn't have dared to try yesterday. Thanks, PRF!You-all saved my about $8K this week!Dude, that's fantastic! Big difference for sure. Did you get the tires and rims, or just the tires?

Fuck the Prius. Monumentally damaging to the environment to manufacture and replacing the batteries is an obscene proposition.http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/business/2012/04/hybrid-car-owners-not-loyal-to-technology/

They've been significantly upgraded since 2012. I reckon you could score a used 2012 for less than the 2010 Prius.

I drove a Prius from London to Scotland and back via the lakes district, (WIndemere) and it was a fine car for my limited exposure. (2 weeks, give or take.) most excellent for UK gas prices.

Tires and rims are on. Huge improvement!Paid the extra fee to have Ashland Tires store and swap out the tires seasonally, so I don't have to find a place to stash them when not in use.Ashland Tires was a great recommendation. Thanks!
