Also you get the added bonus of finding out which bass player numbskulls were willing to try out for Metallica (i mean, ok, it's a good paycheck, but...). I sometimes wonder if Corrosion of Conformity saw that movie and suddenly looked over at Pepper Keenen and went "uh...dude? You, um, you happy being in the band? Everything ok?".

Apparently Pepper Keenen is close friends with James Hetfield and James really wanted him to audition. From what I read Keenen wasn't too keen (pun intended) on being in the movie for the exact reason you said.

The bass player audition is the best part of that movie.

The first time I heard St. Anger I thought one of the lines was "my lifestyle determines my deathstyle"...but there is no way anyone would use that line. He must be saying the same syllables, but in his made up language.
