Haha all valid questions and my low resolution pictures (I'm posting from a laser I'm working on) certainly don't help the validity.

I didn't know anything about the serial number convention but it's entirely possible that this one doesn't follow it because it was the first wedge and they didn't know if they would make more?
Backstory as to why it's that beat up (and in the photos) - Al and his friend used to be in an LA psych/rock band called 'Flyer' (no internet info?) and their practice space was right beside the travis bean shop. Travis would let them use guitars while they jammed. They had wild outfits and would huck guitars around so when the wedge was propositioned their guitar player was on it. There's a photo of a double neck red wedge on Kthe EGC instagram, and that was theirs - but this "I" being more practical was the one that was played/toured - the guitar player moved to the east coast and this literally went from active use to just in a case at his mom's house since the 80s?
The mom passed away so Al brought in this and a couple other beans that he got out to fix up at work, I took the photos before hand.
If he's still got them I'll take pictures of the engravement notes from Travis on the back

Sure, I own guitars that aren't red. Don't ask where the rest of them are, or how many there are in total. I am not completely sure. I grew up in a guitar shop. I lost count way back when. These are all great.
No image. :-(

Jeez. Look at that finish.

Damn, bassdriver.

Damn.

How much does it weigh? About the same as a small car?
It only weighs 10.10lbs. The finish is amazing, it’s perfectly balanced and it’s wonderful to play. I think I will never have to buy another bass guitar again!

I had been curious about the "OG" Precision Bass for quite a few years but didn't exactly want to shell out for a Sting signature or whatever. This week I saw a Squier Classic Vibe 50s in the local classifieds, and I just picked it up, and oh my goddddddddd it is wonderful. Fretwork, neck profile, feel, finish, all just perfect for me. LOVE IT. Feels as good as most of the Fenders I have. Made in Indonesia which is a new one on me. Incredibly beautifully made, and the previous owner had strung it with LaBella flats before deciding to part with it, which was a nice bonus.

Seriously cannot believe how good it is.

Nice! The Squier Classic Vibe series are the best cheap guitars ever made. I have a Tele and it's better than 90% of the 70's and 80's Fenders that I've played.

Just chiming in to agree with Elisha. I had a CV Duo Sonic that I never should have gotten rid of, but it's quality made a lasting impression that completely changed my preconceptions about budget guitars. I have since built 4 guitars around maple Classic Vibe necks. Tele, Strat, JM, the necks are just phenomenal. Go to the guitar center website, go to the used inventory and search classic vibe. You can basically get an amazing version of any Fender design for $350 or less if you're patient. Tele Custom, Tele Deluxe, Jazzmaster, Jaguar, vintage spec strats, P and J Basses. Mustang basses. It's mind blowing. The Esquire they did a few years ago was a thing of beauty. I love the vintage style tuners they use, too, where the post end is slotted from the top down so you can just push the string in and wrap instead of having to thread the end through the hole.

I'm a Classic Vibe superfan.

And, oh yeah, that 50s P Bass is beautiful!

This is a great story. Your friend has a total gem there. Hope it gets fixed up and playable for someone - even him.

(OG Travis Bean wedge sits in mom's attic for 40 years - wow.)
