I tried out every mic I had on my voice a cappella (except AT4060 currently out for repair) and the cheap ribbon beat out a lot of the other options after a little EQ. It wasn’t better than an RE20, AT4033, etc but it is a fun character option that should work great in certain instances

They beat my Golden Age R1 MK3 hands down and although that is also a cheapo ribbon mic, it cost as much as like 5 of the monoprice ribbons.

I'm interested to see where it sits between a FatHead and my home-made ribbon that sounds amazing but almost killed me. From there for $50 if it's not exciting I don't mind pulling it apart and seeing what a minimal amount of effort can do for improvements. I don't know if any record I ever write will be good enough to justify me re-ribboning anything.

It's maybe not the mic you'd reach for if you were doing a single mic solo acoustic guitar recording or something where there's a lot of space and you're able to hear all of the short comings in the signal chain. But mixed in with 10 other mics on a drum kit in a rock band they sound excellent; a pair of coles are going to sound 'better' solo'd and a/b'd (shocking), but I doubt I could tell the difference with a few more mics mixed in.
