Speaking of Japan, does anyone know if the jazz kissen/listening bars have age restrictions? We don’t have firm plans to visit any this summer, but I’m curious nonetheless.

When I was out there we hit the Cape Porpoise Lobster Co's shack because my mother-in-law orders their lobster for her birthday every year and it was one of the best meals I've ever had, ate right there on the pier. Lobster bisque, crab cakes, Shipyard lager, Maine blueberry pie, all that. I'm going to assume Nunan's is at least that good, so you should be golden there.

Beer: Maine is a pretty great beer state. Aside from no self-respecting eating/drinking establishment going without having Allagash white on tap, there's Bissell Brothers in Portland, Maine Beer Co in Freeport, and Oxbow in Newcastle, plus a bunch of small places that are probably pretty reliable. The latter two I mentioned are a bit northeast of Portland, but New England breweries tend to be pretty physically beautiful destinations and Oxbow specializes in saison/farmhouse/mixed ferm shit if that's your thing. In the touristy area of Saco/Biddeford, there's Sacred Profane which has two beers: a light Czech lager and a dark Czech lager. One of the owners is a woman who posted on Instagram a couple years ago asking for stories of sexual harassment/abuse in the beer industry and got over 700 stories, resulting in some comeuppance for a few creeps, so give them your money if the spirit moves you. People also swear by Palace diner in Biddeford.

Maine is a fun state to explore in the summer and I'm guessing FM twelvepoint will chime in here at some point for ya. Given your dates, you are probably going to arrive just in time for the beaches to fill up.

Even got a reservation for the KORG MUSEUM (which sounds like it's just a dude's house an hour an outside of Nagoya.)

Bouncing between Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kyoto, Kumamoto, Kanzawa, and Naoshima (thank you, JR Pass!)

My girlfriend's been a bunch over the years so I'm following her lead, and even though we're a few months out things are planned out pretty well and I'm stoked!
That's awesome!

Not sure if or what kinds of recommendations you are looking for, but there was a thread here on traveling in Japan last year. Check it out: http://premierrockforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=70217

I spent a day there, about 17 years ago.

It was hot, and my wife got mad at me for deciding to drive out there (we were vacationing in Orange County at the time). That's about all I remember.

Great architecture. Probably decent food. If you go check out Yucca Valley, Pioneertown (they get good shows at Pappy & Harriets), and Joshua Tree. If you like snow it's not too far way this time of year, with more to come probably for skiing/snowboarding.

Thanks! Didn’t know about Pioneertown and will have to drop by to get some photos.

We were originally thinking of spending spring break in the Caribbean, but holy balls, were flights and accommodations expensive. We opted for Palm Springs instead, which looks like it will check way more boxes than the Caribbean would anyway.

Will be in SF Saturday and Sunday, then leave for LA to be there Monday and Tuesday to see Unwound in each city as discussed elsewhere. I like food, museums, record stores and tattoos. Planning on going to Stranded and Thrillhouse in SF, have no tat appts yet. In LA we're going to do a couple of touristy things, but I'm definitely going to MOCA for all the Rothko's and I'm getting a small tat at a place called the honorable society. Would like to hit Amoeba.

If there is a decent bar (I don't drink, but my wife still does and bars don't bother me)/coffee shop/cafe in either of the areas, recs for that as well and restaurants.

Neighborhoods: SF is in Union Square right on the trolley at the westin. LA is west hollywood/Beverly Grove. This is my first time in either city as an adult, so I don't know much. We won't have a car. Appreciate any recs.

Thx.

Here's the current schedule for Pappy & Harriet's. Folk Yeah is a California promoter of things neo-hippy mostly.

Agadir was great, our daughter took absolutely everything in her stride, my wife got to ride a camel and I got to eat prawn briouat at the souk. And yes, FM enframed - Moroccan wine is excellent! They served it almost apologetically at our hotel, but the red in particular was very very nice.
