Why? The rosin fumes are worse for your health, as long as you don't eat, drink or smoke before washing the solder off your hands.

If the reason you chose lead-free solder wasn't related to the potential health risks of heavy metal ingestion, my apologies for assuming.

Oh shit, they're onto me!!!!

My username actually infringes on a different trademark:

When I registered here lo those many years ago, I could buy a liter of W.L.Weller 107 from the Kenwood Liquors at 8810 S. Stony Island for $16. It was a dollar or two more than Rebel Yell and another one or two bottles from the Buffalo Trace distillery, but it was noticeably tastier than the others.

That location is closed, the Weller 107 has outpaced inflation considerably, and I don't live in Chicago anymore.

The world has been using led-free solder for quite some time. I suppose led solder would be easier to use, but I thought I'd try led-free. But thanks for the heads up on the flux. I'll take care using it, if I end up using it.

I have a little USB fan that sucks the air through a charcoal filter to keep the rosin smoke out of my face.

I'd definitely recommend using flux, scuffing the backs of the pots and using alligator clips/hemostats/roach clips/what have you to keep the joint-to-be still while you solder.

But I defer to the esteemed Dr. Balls and anyone else with professional experience, at my current consumption rate, my 1 lb. roll of solder is going to easily last the rest of my life.

No. There are regulations in certain countries about what can be used in manufacturing but that's mostly about disposal because so many electronic items get thrown away after they die or are no longer needed. But you cant still buy it...its not outlawed. Also its Lead, not Led.

LOL "professional" is a stretch. And in the past 5 years I have bought 4 lbs of solder and built 340 guitar pedals and 35 guitar amps. So yeah a 1lb roll of solder should last any non-lunatic a decent amount of time.

Ok, for the hell of it, I got a small roll of Kester 44. So, hopefully this might help things be a little easier.

I suppose between using extra flux rosin vs leaded high quality solder, the latter is better for a small project.

I hope/think you'll have a better overall experience. Just don't try to re-do any joints you've already made with the lead-free solder, start fresh (which it sounds like you're going to).

Nothing against you and your soon-to-be beautiful instrument, or any of the other existing beautiful instruments in this thread, but every time I go to the Warmoth website and start assembling parts, I wind up close to a thousand dollary-doos. And I start thinking about the other guitars $1k would buy. Obviously my problem and not anyone else's, though.

FM Cakes, I hope your electronics go together smoothly and you're rocking out with the new T-style this weekend.

I appreciate the input and the push to try lead solder for the ease-of-use.

The cost of a Warmoth build is much less than say, a brand new Fender American Standard, but like 1000 times better and customized to your every want and need. Even if you paid a professional to put it together.
