Aftersun - very A24-we-are-arthouse style so if that irks you maybe steer clear, but if you can hang, it's a lovely and subtle thing. Doesn't insult your intelligence.

One of the fundamental differences between Heat and L.A. Takedown is that whereas Heat makes Los Angeles look pretty fuckin' cool, L.A. Takedown mostly does the opposite.

The latter isn't devoid of merit and will remain interesting as a curiosity piece, but it made me distinctly not nostalgic for the late eighties in America.

And given what came after, it's proof that some people with "a vision" should be allowed ample budgets and the chance to flesh things out on a maximalist scale. The leap in quality in every single metric is enormous.

My wife had The House of Gucci on the tele (she's obsessed with Lady Gag-a). The movie is decent, all the acting is good, but Jared Leto playing Paolo Gucci is phenomenal; his fake Italian accent is the best I've ever heard. I'm not saying it's accurate, but it's the best, like a cartoon. Maybe that is how Paolo actually spoke (in Italian, of course).

The Netflix DEVO documentary - great stuff that makes me realise I never appreciated them enough. Their take and art seems all the more relevant at this cultural/political moment in time

^want to see!

I didn't see the big deal with Weapons. (Spoilers) .. so an 'evil witch' moving to town and doing crazy shit is a plot line we're running with in 2025? Neat. I at least expected more brutal gore or disturbing scenes. Shellac doing the Wingwalker pose was more menacing than the possessed people in this movie. What a waste of Julia Garner's foxy talents.

Speaking for myself it was entertaining and I liked it way better than Barabarian. Zero scares. Tried watching Wolf Man a couple of weeks ago (crap) and was like: boy, she sure looks that one actor from Weapons.

I hope The Undertone gets released this year because so far imo horror this year has been sorely lacking.

Mickey-17 was fun! I hadn’t heard of it and put it on for company while I folded laundry. It was silly, Pattinson was adorable. Good visual gags, a little cathartic. Overall pretty competent. A little surprised by the low RT score and reviews, which I don’t think were deserved. Same director who did Parasite.

Bring Her Back was entertaining enough, I liked Talk to Me much better, though. Better premise, I thought.

I finally saw Performance yesterday, it was great.

Weapons was entertainment done in an entertaining way. I loved the villain, and laughed a lot.

The Mick Jagger one? Excellent film.

Alien 3. It's OK, just trying to get caught up/reminded on the franchise as I await episode 8 of the new series.
