Here's some very exciting pix from when I was building the studio if you wanna see just how much treatment you need to actually flatten out the low end. You can't really tell but it's a few feet deep on the front and back walls, and at least the middle of the ceiling. Pink fluffy is cheap and it works awesome if you have the space to do it:

I love looking at this stuff.

I think I read once that something like 1/3 of the depth of your space is needed to be made anechoic to actually completely undo the first order null caused my the dimensions of the space. It's an anecdotal little "rule" but it puts in perspective how much treatment is needed to actually tame low frequencies in an inclosed space. I don't have the luxury of space for that much treatment or anywhere near it. Everything I've done maybe took 6db out of my null problem, and eats some midrange boxyness. that's about it. Made a big difference to my ears, but measurements are exactly mind blowing. I'll see if I still have the last round of plots from when I put in my new monitors and the last round of panels and post them if it's worth conversation.

when I was in high school I had a shitty summer job of putting insulation in metal buildings in 100+ degree humid ass Arkansas. The worst. We would drive directly to the lake and jump in wearing all our clothes when we were done.

The antique shop next to work got bought and new owners have marked things down to partly convert the place to a general store and ice cream place.

They’ve got some old ass electrical equipment no one has touched yet.

-vacuum tube tester
-webcor tube powered portable turntable with fold out speaker
-a small reel to reel player, don’t recall the brand
-a tool box full of vacuum tubes
-maybe a 60s or older oscilloscope

Certain that none of it works. Old owner makes everything up and was begrudged to sell anything, so it’s all been sitting there for decades.

It would probably just wind up as sorta neat looking junk in my hands, but if any of that sounds like the stuff of an interesting project or otherwise attractive, share your thoughts. The Webcor looks nice cosmetically.

The tubes would be cool. Better get that tube tester!
