Enframed, they've already removed the tonsil - I have a lovely hole in the back of my throat that regularly fills up with food. Clearing it out is not pleasant!

Per C_______ B____, trying to make updates to pyramids/managers based on personnel changes within the company.

Two issues:

1) Having trouble getting "exclusive" access to necessary FOXPRO(!!!) database files to perform updates... trying to work with B____ S____ and C______ F_____ on this aspect.

2) My worst fears are correct, the set of tables that underlies this application violates some of the most basic rules and best practices of databases. For example, instead of being keyed on something like Assoc# or SSN, the interaction between tables appears to be based on a 'Name' field, and when it doesn't find an exact match, then records are left stranded and not returned with the results.

For example, when a query is performed against security.dbf table and ex_info.dbf table trying to match on name... if one table has name as "PUBLIC, JOHN" and another uses "PUBLIC, J" or "PUBLIC, J." then a match is never found.

When I can get a solution for issue#1, then I can get about tackling #2
(just trying to "clean" the data for now to get through)

THE LONG TERM SOLUTION - as stated above, these matches need to be done through a more consistent field such as assoc# or SSN or some unique numeric key, not through a text field like 'Name' where inconsistent spellings can make you lose data/results.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN "APPLICATIONS" ARE "SLAPPED TOGETHER" AND NOT PLANNED OUT PROPERLY.

FYI for the future - planning the design of an application with a Business Analyst and someone in Database group as partners could have avoided this kind of hassle altogether.

This is exactly the kind of issue that should have been detected and eliminated before the "application" was even coded.

Was this ever tested by anyone before it went live?

The mind reels...

I feel like I've had mild allergies the entire day, which is somewhat irritating.

Also, I've decided that the only amp for me is a MusicMan 2*12 combo amp, when I can get it. Why? I want the Pink Flag guitar tone, and I am pretty sure it's just MusicMan amp distortion. Problem is, I've heard 2*12 MusicMan combos can't channel switch the drive channel...is that an easy modification, gearheads?
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.
