The place I used to work took fire prevention very seriously and we were shown this film. Harrowing. It shows the absolute destructive power. Near the end a group of fans are walking away perpendicular to the burning stand, probably about 100 yards away and one of them just burst into flames due to the heat radiation. It's unbelievable.

Peter Jackson, who was playing for Bradford City that day, rescued quite a few spectators from the fire. A while later he signed for Newcastle and his daughter went to my school. We all knew Mr Jackson as the fire hero from Bradford.

I'm the same age as DRC and Simmo and remember nothing of the Bradford fire; I'm pretty sure that Hillsborough is my first football-memory (I'm a late developer!) I'd decided (that day, quite possibly) that I was a Liverpool fan and vividly remember dashing into the garden to drag my dad inside cos 'people are dying at the football match'.

Some LUFC news: Sadly the twattish official site won't allow right-clicking. Here is news of how the new Leeds Brewery in Holbeck is dedicating a beer to LUFC; the name will be chosen by the fans and for every pint sold they will donate ten pence to Leeds' transfer funds. Ten pence! The beer could be nice though - I haven't tried 'Leeds Bitter' yet but I've heard good things.

Edit: Read about Leeds Brewery here.

Also, although I can't find a link for it, Leeds United have signed a horse. It's a racehorse, named 'Minus Fifteen'.

The keeper that Sheedy put one past there: Mike Hooper. I'd forgotten about him too. According to Wikipedia,

"Hooper received a degree in English Literature at Swansea University before he was signed by Kenny Dalglish in 1985. Mike can now be found working as a doorman at a bar in the City of Durham."
