Best tuners ever. A friend of mine puts fiddly locking tuners on every guitar he has and I laugh at him all the time. these things are the best.tommy wrote: Tue Dec 20, 2022 12:35 pmAGREE! I love safety tuners. I know exactly where to cut my strings (about 2.5 posts ahead of the one you are stringing, 3 for plain strings), insert and turn. Works great every time.Dr Tony Balls wrote: Tue Dec 20, 2022 12:29 pm Speaking of which......why do non split-shaft tuners exist? A superior version has existed for like 70 years and yet the solid shaft ones are still around.

1033Lol. They also still use a peghead where the strings bend out of the nut.TylerDeadPine wrote: Tue Dec 20, 2022 2:48 pm "Gibson still uses these, if it's good enough for them, then.."

1035I don't other than the respect the other models get from those looking for a bang-for-the-buck workhorse model, which you already know. It's interesting as this is their attempt to make something more 'vibey' or 'colorful' or whatever other vague adjective we use to mean not overly clean or linear. Competition in the non clean comp category around that price would be a Klark Teknik 1176, or maybe a used Warm (a seemingly controversial entry into the market).llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Tue Dec 20, 2022 2:06 pm Anyone familiar with the FMR PBC-6A?
I know the FMR stuff is well regarded and very well might be a great value, but the PBC compressor is still more expensive than the RNC and RNLA, especially if you want two channels.
They have a good resale value, which might be reason enough to try one it on its own, but I’d like to hear more from our corner of the internet. Google keeps pointing me to certain gearspace characters that I’m not too sure about
I'm a champion of the Symetrix 501 toggle switch models as the best deal that runs the gamut from clean squeeze to grainy destruction, but I vicariously want you to take the plunge on the FMR so I can hear what you think.
Sorry, that's two paragraphs of useless. I searched for a tapeop review and all I found was a thread I started about the unit 14 years ago with a few of the old regulars responding "Hmm, seems interesting". Seems FMR didn't market well which says nothing about the quality of the box.
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1036The warm doesn't sound too bad to me. It kinda sounds like a 1174 that is slightly grainy. The Klark sounds like any boring compressor circuit that distorts easy. Afriend has the klark pultek and 1176 and they both sound like shit. Clip in a really ugly way. I'm very curious about the Lindell since I hear good things. Also into trying their la2a that uses black lions opto circuit.losthighway wrote: Wed Dec 21, 2022 10:10 am . 1038I did find one for a price that was good enough not to lose much if I should decide to sell. At least according to the Reverb price guide, which you just have to assume is accurate. Unfortunately for you guys I am fairly new to recording outside of band practice stuff, so who cares if I like it at this point.losthighway wrote: Wed Dec 21, 2022 10:10 amI don't other than the respect the other models get from those looking for a bang-for-the-buck workhorse model, which you already know. Was warned away from recent Klark Teknik stuff and haven’t been that interested in Warm Audio yet if only because I see all that stuff listed for sale used everywhere. It might well be great but I want to know how many people are keeping that stuff and using it? I think their Pultec thing looks really cool, though
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1039The Pultec and a few of the mics seem to be the things that folks use and hold onto. I've not seen much else popping up in friends' studios.

1040If three musicians are recording at the same time, how do I set up the headphones so they can each have their own mix?
I'm using pro tools and a MOTU 828 mk2. Money is no object.
Actually, I just checked my Tesla stock and I guess I'm broke now, so cheaper is better.
