I found out that I will be homeless come Thursday morning. I will not be sleeping on the streets or in my car or anything that horrendous, but I will be without a place of residency and finding an apartment or job is going to be rather inconvenient for me.

I am finally going to have to crack and get a cell phone for the first time ever. That sucks enormous ocelot cock.

If anyone in Chicago needs a roommate or knows of a job opportunity, let me know. I may finally make the move to the land o' the FIBs.

I saw a BBC programme today called "One Man and His Dog", or some odd. Like a competition for sheep-herders, the idea being that the herder and his dog had to lead a pack of sheep over a bunch of obstacles. The whole thing was commentated as if it was your regular, run-off-the-mill sporting event, British fashion. I couldn't stop watching it. It was the best thing I saw on TV in ages.

Ty: Keep us posted -- I've been thinking about your post a lot. I know it's got to be really tough for you right now. Hope things work out okay.

Take courage,
John

Thanks for the good wishes.

Biopsy results were completely negative, which was a tremendous relief to say the least. We still don't know what's wrong with her. She has never regained her original energy level and she's still having skin problems. To top it off, she managed to rip some stitches out and had to get restitched, so she's pretty uncomfortable.

We'll go in to get the stitches out right after Christmas and start some more tests to try to get a diagnosis (and hopefully a treatment).

That sounds great.

I am still fighting this one HARD. If my boss won't pay for it, I will not take it. If I end up getting one, I'm attaching it to the wall of my apartment with a 6' chain.

Hang in there. Fuck cellphones. Plan things just a day in advance, will you people?

Hey - they is what they is. You can be a normal person who occasionally uses one, or become an annoying twat who lives and dies by it - your choice.

I find it handiest for meeting up with people. For example, I had several people I wanted to meet up with over the course of T&G25, but I didn't need to map out a whole day of trying to meet people at established times at particular landmarks (uh... met me at 4pm *sharp* at the first porta-potty by the "Touch" stage)

I find a lot less stress knowing that two parties trying to meet up can just get in the general area and then do the "Where are you" game until the gap is narrowed.

You get a lot less of this:

"What happened last night? I said meet me at 8th & Pine at 10:00?"

"I was there, where were you?"

"Whattaya mean - I was TOTALLY THERE AT 10:00 and didn't see you"

"Bullshit - I waited 15 minutes and never saw you!"

(ad nauseum)

And more of this:

"Hey it's 10:00 where are you?"

"I'm at 8th & Pine, where the fuck you at?"

"Bullshit - I'm right here and I don't see y... oh fuck - I'm an idiot - I'm on 9th & Pine - I'll be there in a second!"

+ how the hell would you organise your band members without one? I have no idea how people did this back in the olden days...

I have a (probably misguided) sense of nostalgia for the time when one could be, and was, out of touch, unavailable.

You know- you're broke down in the middle of nowhere. There's no AAA and there's no cell phones. Figure something out.

I have a (probably mistaken) belief that such situations 'build character.'
