I submit that Townshend's "Rough Boys" is preferable to the collected output of both the Who and Bob Seger. I say this having only the vaguest familiarity with the Who, Seger, and Townshend solo.

My friends with no taste whatsoever (and there's very few of them) deride every independent ("non-chart" to them) band that I like. They group them into a class of acts called "general rusted-exhaust pipe music" because that's what non-chart bands sound like to them.

Oh, there's tons of bands I love that you guys give me shit for or just shit on in general.

But the best is this: my old roommate has a great taste in music, but his weakness was that he liked Enya and owned all of her albums. I found this out when I was going through his CD collection to find a specific album. Totally threw me for a loop. He also had no shame admitting that he loved Enya, so I respected him for that (at least).

He made fun of me the same way for liking Tom Waits.

They are amazing live! Although they only play about once a year these days, and it's normally in London.
