What the hell are you idiots ranting about?
I posted his essay because it's relevant information if you are involved in music in any way. It's well written, insightful and comes from firsthand experience (not mine, Jonah's). And it is a sadly typical story.
I don't care who has heard of him. I posted links to the music/wikipedia because some of you were asking. For all of you who take perverse pride in knowing or not-knowing who Jonah is, awesome! We're proud of you too!
The Boston Beatdown videos have absolutely nothing to do with these bands, his label or me for that matter. The music those cowardly tools listen to couldn't be further from the music/genre/"social group (??)" I'm talking about.
But it's great that you've made knee-jerk assumptions and accused strangers of being gang members because they live in Boston and play heavy music. That's wonderful of you.
I have only posted under this screenname, by the way. I have a hard enough time remembering one password. Too much acid in the 80's.

I'd agree with your self assessment, there.

I'm glad you posted the essay. It was insightful, helped reinforce things we already knew, and served as a timely reminder to some people who may have forgotten.
It was the "how can you dumbasses not know who joshua jenkins is?!?" type trolling that was over the top.

For some reason, I knew you would know. Broc's Cabin was a great album. Both F Train and Sasquatch being particularly tremendous.

eh, on one record that may have been true. I'm not too concerned with what people thought/think about the music that I helped to make back in 1992, nor what I do now.

Really? Then why do it?
I mean, I'm not ruled by what folks think of my music--not to the extent that I'm gonna do something I don't dig just 'cause it's more likely to get over commercially or something--but that doesn't mean I'm not unconcerned with what people think of my music. I know that Emily Dickinson was unconcerned with what people thought of her poems--she hid 'em in a trunk until she was dead. But I don't understand how a person who is compelled to play shows and put out records can claim to be unconcerned what people think.

Because doing those things is rewarding of themselves. That's why my band does them. I don't give the first shit what anybody who isn't in the band makes of them.

Expound on this, please, if you would. I'll be the first to admit i'm something of an attention-starved brat, and like being on stage in front of people, so what other people think is important to me (although not enough to influence the creative process in any significant manner). How is playing a show in front of people more rewarding than jamming in a basement with one's bandmates, if one truly doesn't care one iota what people think?
Legitimitely curious, as i've often wondered about this. I can see how recording and pressing music to vinyl can be inherently rewarding in a "man, this is my music and it's something i made and it looks soooo cool" sense. When we put out our first vinyl ever, i didn't care if anybody ever bought it because holy shit! It's a wax disc! And if you put it on a record player, the noise sounds like us! Holy crap! Exciting!
