I knew I could rely on you.

Ha, no, seriously, the show I saw that year at Cabaret Metro -- I don't remember much detail about it now but I do recall being vaguely, slightly bored/disappointed with rock music in general for some time afterwards, because nothing else was that good. Then again I skipped seeing the Fall in 1982; I went to their show just to see the opening band, the Embarrassment, and then left. :{

When it all comes down to it, I think Devo is still my favorite band. They got me into all this other stuff, really. Obviously, not all their albums are great or even good, but when they were at their peak, they were perfect.

Those 'Hardcore DEVO' releases were true blasts of unfettered genius, in my opinion.

...on a reel-to-reel 4-track, with an old synth and some homemade electronic drumset using guitar pickups.

Indeed. Much feelings were felt round' 1990, when I, already well into Devo fandom, was able to purchase a cassette copy of the first of the Hardcore volumes. Twisted my ear, a certain way, I musta say. I was 13 years old and whatta lucky 13 it was. Since then, I've got vinyl bootlegs of stuff from that same era that didn't even appear on those wonderful volumes. I imagine there is a pile of gold out there. Devo knows. I gotta cat who answers to certain souns offa "Mechanical Man." Be stiff.

I like that song of theirs "Ashtray! Ashtray!" because it amuses me to have that many exclamation points going at once - "Ashtray! Ashtray!" by Die! Die! Die! off of Die! Die! Die!
Seriously, though, I actually do like that song.
