Most types of music has to be palatable for the young to swallow. Nirvana gave the record label a reason to exist. Nothing's Shocking couldn't have done that. The image of the record, Perry's voice, the oddness of Navaro's playing all added up to something people with lax tastes couldn't grasp.
Lyrically even, the vague-ness of Cobain lyrics and the catchy verse-chorus-verse of it grabbed more people than Perry's lyrics about Ted Bundy. It may not seem like a giant wrench-in-the-works to us, but to the average consumer, it's like farting into a microphone.

Everyone in my 7th grade crew loved Jane's Addiction, but I hated them from the first moment I heard them. I still think they were/are overrated, precious drivel.

But I absolutely loved the KLF at that same time, so don't worry about anything I say.

First memory of music was around the age of 5. My parents bought me a Mickey Mouse record player and Huey Lewis & the News' "The Heart of Rock 'N' Roll." From then on, it was the Beatles, Beach Boys, and the Carpenters.

I remember really liking Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" when I was in Kindergarten.

And I remember really liking Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love", but the first time I heard it, I thought my radio was going haywire. Same goes for Alice Cooper's "School's Out". I loved the song, but the ending made me thing something had gone wrong with the record player at the radio station.

Beatles. Then I heard Kashmir on the radio. I got Zeppelin 2 the next day and I heard Whole Lotta Love for the first time. A classic rock period with lots of Zeppelin and Sabbath followed.
