I downloaded the album, and I will be buying it when it comes to a record store near my house.

Most fans of half-decent music are intelligent enough to understand that buying one of their favorite band's album is a good way to show their support / give the band an incentive to put the effort into another project.

I realize that downloading music is illegal (and arguably immoral), but when you're having a bad day and the opportunity to listen to a few new Shellac tracks happens to arise, you'd have to be a real cunt to say no.

If you buy the album / turn others on to the band / attend their shows, what real harm is done?

First of all...the thing that most musicians that are making a drive at "success" forget is this: you're forgittin' the yunguns. Who gets to hurl their bullshit at impressionable young minds? Pitchfork. Who creates an actual, visceral reaction to their music? Well...a lot of the bands that are so popular on this board. STNNNG is for the children. Shellac is for the children in practically the same way that Nirvana was for the children...just more mature...it's pretty simple music, ya know?...(despite being saddled with the "math rock" label)...if Steve still secretly dislikes Nirvana like he used to, I think he'd be doing himself a disservice.

When I try and turn kids onto Shellac, I burn them weird Shellac "singles":

"Wingwalker"
"Doris"
"Killers"
"Billiard etc."
"Fuck You, Chris"

Then I throw on the most accessible Terraform songs:

"Copper"
"This Is A Picture"

Then they figure out that they have to find At Action Park.

And...fuck you.
