It's a plausible scenario.
I find it hard to believe that the police seemingly have no other plausible lead. It seems genuinely strange to me that the police seem to have nothing else to go on; and I don't put that down to 'foreign police bungling'. It really seems like the lines of inquiry are severely limited, and the available evidence is meagre. That is unusual, in any crime, I think.
So I find it interesting that the Portuguese Police seem to have been following the parental lead as closely as they have; I don't believe they are incompetent, and I think they must have some
reason to be searching the McCann's hire cars, for example.
If there is no evidence pointing to an abductor, but some evidence pointing to the parents, well, it's a logical way to go, isn't it?
