Glad you made it home safe, boombats! Sorry I never found you again. I could barely find my way home, despite it being 4 blocks away, thanks largely to your apple.

Mastodon were ripping it up (though not quite the best set I've ever seen them play). Neurosis...damn. Just skull-destroying. I wish my back hadn't given out before their set list. I think I missed one song.

Great night with the PRFers. Especially good to see vockins again and meet musicisallmine (nice CB handle, man!).

I'm not sure I could ever see Neurosis in another venue again, unless it's in a grotto under live volcano. That was a very cool night.

1). I have never seen so much facial hair in one place. When did New York get taken over by lumberjacks?

In the metal scene, it was about 4 years ago. I'd just like to note that I was way ahead of the curve on this one, but I had an advantage. I'm part-redneck.

2). The sound where I was standing (balcony) was lousy for the first band, OK for Mastodon and very good for Neurosis. I went and stood near the mix position during Mastodon and it sounded slightly better down there.

The sound in that place was bizarre. There was a marked difference between where I was standing on the other side of that pillar and the seat beside burun, a mere 6 feet away.

3). What is it with the fucking cell phones? The people near me were dicking around with their cellphones every 4 minutes - taking crappy pictures, text messaging, web surfing. This one girl next to me must have been a fucking brain surgeon on call, she never put the damned thing away. I think she was just bored - dragged there by her boyfriend. Not much of a female presence at this show. Besides Burun

I have to admit, I did send one stoner buddy of mine a text, but only because I knew he'd dig what was going on nearly as much as I did. The youth, they like to share.

And it's funny but I thought at one point, "There are more girls here than I expected." I'm used to my usual underground heavy rock shows where the only women are my and my buddies' girlfriends/wives and any girlfriends the band may bring. The other 10 people in the crowd are bearded dudes. Last night, I noticed at least 3 chicks in or near the pit itself. Dangerous but twistedly admirable.

That was pretty fucking fun. Wish I'd seen syntax again before we left. I hope the long drive he and his buddies took was worth the experience. Syntax, at least, seemed intent on squeezing every drop of goodness from the moment and I applaud him for it.

El P, it was stupendous.

Neurosis took the stage after a long set-up, then proceeded to set up some more, which is just par for the course with them. But then without any perceptible signal, they all blasted a note in perfect unison. And it was LOUD. I actually jumped. Like a damn bomb going off. And damn, did it go off.

It seemed like this assembler both got those tattoos and started work at this job a very long time ago.

On closer still-frame oh-my-god inspection, it became obvious that the hands also had pink nail polish, and a diamond wedding ring.

Was the person with the swastika tattoos the guy featured in the "Modern Primitives" book, ManWoman?

I'm glad that I was sitting in the upper-level so I didn't have to destroy idiots like you in the pit. I wouldn't have lasted long enough to mess with you, though. That skinhead guy in the pit hopefully got what was coming to him. I saw him punch two people. I'm sure he did more but I was busy paying attention to the music and not being a tool.

The drummer from U.S. Christmas pulled me downstairs to smoke and we bumped into Max Weinberg. He was a real nice guy.

I had sea-legs for about an hour (my sea legs are shit).

We had such a great day Saturday that we didn't even talk about Neurosis until were an hour into the drive home (about midnight Sunday).

The weed need was taken care of. Fuckers. They had me smuggling marijuana across six state lines and I didn't even know it. It was in baked good form, though.

We ate pizza twice on Saturday.

Went to Koreatown and walked around in twenty degree weather at half mast the entire time. There are a lot of beautiful women. Law of averages, I guess. A lot of people, too.

We saw the entire city-- we cheated by using the empire state building as our vantage point, though. Went to Times Square at night.

Went to a tea place in SoHo with about two-hundred different varieties (And Bo purchased a sweet tea!).

We had dessert with a couple of girls at the Yaffa Cafe and ran into the cover of Physical Graffiti across the street.

Drove through Shartlesville, PA on the way home........ Shartlesville.
