I just heard Footbinder for the first time in 20-some years. Great get-in-get-out quickie. I had it on a Simple Machines 7 at one point. It looks like it's included on Grippe nowadays. What a song.phpBB [media]

I often get a kick out of how high the toms are tuned on the S/T.

J. Robbins put out an acoustic EP with Jawbox, OFP, and Burning Airlines tracks on it, as well as a new track. I saw J's acoustic performance back in December of 2011, which was remarkable, so I'm really looking forward to listening to this. (I think FMs rchapman and ampeg77 were there, among others.)

I was at the Office of Future Plans show at the Beat Kitchen, but didn't make it to J's solo performance the next night.Jawbox: so NOT crap. No reservations, no waffles. One of my favorite bands ever. I'm deeply perplexed that an entire seven people could think otherwise. I've read a few of their posts, and I understand the individual words in them...

Good band, but they haven't quite held up for me. Back when people used to ask other people things, the guy at the local record store suggested FYVOSS and SDRE's Diary. I had just enough money for two CD's and he knocked it out of the park for 15 year old me. NC.

I had a couple of these albums in high school when they came out... didn't really like them then and really don't like them now.Back then it was a big deal to drop $20 on a new cd and it was always such a disappointment to get one that fell flat because I'd have to wait another couple of weeks to make a trip to the city and find more new music. These guys, Swervedriver, Daisy Chainsaw, Fudge Tunnel etc... all stinkers and all owe me $20.Specifically, Jawbox have always just seemed like a watery combination of a bunch of other bands... a bunch of other bands that were a lot better at doing what they do.I'm going to guess they were probably better live.

I posted this in General Discussion, but, thought I'd mention it here as well.Dr. Ew wrote:I just wanted to make sure that East Coast PRF folks are aware of the rare J. ROBBINS tour that starts this week. Full disclosure: I'm putting on/opening the Cambridge, MA show and have been working hard to make sure people know about all the other shows too.Joined by his OFFICE OF FUTURE PLANS bandmates GORDON WITHERS (cello) and BROOKS HARLAN (keyboards, backing vocals), J. ROBBINS has just released an EP titled Abandoned Mansions that features new acoustic arrangements of songs J. has written for JAWBOX, BURNING AIRLINES, OFFICE OF FUTURE PLANS, as well as the titular new track. Together, they are performing acoustic sets featuring selections from his past and current bands, digging into the catalog of songs that J. has written over the past two decades.Since J. tours so infrequently, I thought that some of you might want to know about these shows. All dates are with JONAH MATRANGA/JONAH'S ONELINEDRAWING. It's a co-headlining sort of thing, so, they'll be alternating who closes the show in different cities. Tour dates: 11/13 Philadelphia, PA - The Boot And Saddle11/14 New Haven, CT - Cafe Nine11/15 Providence, RI - The Parlour11/16 Cambridge, MA - Green Street Studios11/17 Washington D.C. - DC 911/18 Baltimore, MD - The Metro Gallery11/23 New York, NY - The Mercury Lounge

I rarely cross post this stuff, because... yuck. But I had J. on my show.Absolutely NOT CRAP as a dude. And i'm a huge, huge fan of the guys music. This was a difficult show for me as I was besieged by technical difficulties (all off air), but when I got him on mic (around the 33 minute mark... after the Jaw-BLOCK) he answered all my questions with aplomb and kindness, even if a few of them approach the Chris Farley character thing.(not nearly as bad as if Kazoo had been there though)Protonic Reversal Episode 55: J. RobbinsFun fact: I've only had a weird 5 song version of the S/T record for the last 10 years or so... I don't really know why. I bought a new copy for this and have been listening to it as if new since then. Such a great, great record. Starting to get down with the Office of Future Plans stuff too.Jawbox: ABSOLUTELY NOT CRAP IN ANYWAY

It's interesting to hear Robbins say the Channels album is his favorite thing. Even the people I know who are super into his stuff are usually a little 'meh' about that one.
