I never gave it much time, but mid-career (pre-2000s) Pearl Jam is totally solid. I say this as someone who was always too cool for them, and hates Ten and yarling. But I think they've been unfairly maligned. I was listening to Yield today, and they sound loose and groovy. Lots of wah guitar and nice syncopation. Sure, they're letting their inner-granola shine through, but it's not forced and the songs are there without sounding commercial, and I actually like Eddy's "singing".

Ye gads. I remember I had this compilation vhs tape with that, Sonic Youth 100% and a bunch of other videos. It was an actual release not just taped off New Zealand’s then underground music show Rádio With Pictures. Which was fantastic. I discussed so much music from that show, especially New Zealand music.
