The great Toumani Diabaté, kora player from Mali, way too soon at 58. There was a period where I'd wake up early and listen to his debut album every day. RIP, sir.

1142John Mayall.
Don't really know a lot about his music other than that so many future stars seemed to have cut their teeth playing with the Bluesbreakers (as with Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated), but I did learn from reading the obituaries that we shared a birthday.

I hate music, it's got too many notes.

1143When I first heard the Bluesbreakers with Cl*pt*n, I finally realized why people talked about him as a talented player. Dunno what happened after that, though.HeavenIsInYrBeard wrote: Wed Jul 24, 2024 8:19 am John Mayall.

1144Abdul "Duke" Fakir, final surviving original member of the Four Tops.
"Walk Away Renee" is such a pretty and pastoral song but the Four Tops rendition is just aces. Great production, vocals, soulful instrumental passage from the Funk Brothers, just aces. 60's soul guard is dying.

1147I didn't hear Heavenly Pop Hit until much later in life. It was one of those songs that immediately took hold and left me over the moon.

1148Just woke up to the news as well. I know he hadn't been well for some time but he seemed to be doing better. I had only just heard him on the radio a couple of weeks ago announcing that he was selling off his music collection. There's a new album of old songs due to come out soon.
