I visited FM Garth this weekend and had a chance to play through his Sunn Beta Bass.

I hadn't really thought too much about these as I figured I was pretty set on solid-state bass amps w/ my GKs and TS-50b. That said, I ripped some Rush basslines through it and it sounded awesome. Flash forward to a few hours later to finding a Beta Bass head at a totally reasonable price, so that is on it's way!

Same as the Traynor: Don't neglect to play your guitar through it too.

One thing to be aware of though is you might not get quite as much of that chisely high-end as we were getting in the basement as a lot of that was those Altecs - holy eff they can be BRIGHT

Three vintage Gretsch floor Tom leg brackets in allegedly nice shape. Coming from Poland. Not very exciting and also not very cheap. Mine had long since stripped out and I had to tap them out for larger modern thumbscrews.

Unlike the Kramer aluminum neck, Vaccaros are lighter, have a four bolt neck, the aluminum core is entirely covered on the back with a wood or wood-like cover, and have a truss rod.

FWIW, #notallkramers did that 2 bolt neck. The headless ones seem to be standard 4 bolt, or at least The Duke is.

I wonder if they used machine screws/bolts tapped into the aluminum itself vs wood screws & thought that would allow them to get away w/ it? The alignment seems to go right to the T itself so...IDK.

Kinda dumb. Aluminum is cool but it ain't steel.

The guitar player in my band wants a Strat but has 1) very little to spend, and 2) very little idea what to look for. He's a great player but pretty much a luddite when it comes to gear so I'm kind of taking this task on by buying a guitar for myself, doing any maintenance & setup stuff as I would, and then letting him know its available if he wants it. So Squier CV time it is! Hard to beat $340 with free shipping.

y'all are so brave buying instruments online, just can't do it (but also I'm well-stocked w/ zero lust or needs in this area). I did it once 15 years ago w/ an Ovation Magnum bass because the price was too stupidly low I couldn't pass. In fact I think that was my first post on this forum after several years of lurking only.

That Squier with the tinted maple fingerboard and color and matching headstock ticks a lot of checkboxes for me.

Of the dozen or so guitars and basses I've owned over the years, the only one I put hands on before I bought it was my Guild D-25 acoustic, via a CL transaction. Everything else was an online (or phone, in the case of a bass I bought in 2001) purchase. Or a gift, in the case of my first bass.
