Oh dude, the first 20-30 minutes of the original Running Man is fucking amazing. It went past my head as a kid, but as an adult, it's just incredible. The rest of the movie is great, if you like Schwarzenegger, with some cheesy 80's stuff regarding the villains (ahem, fat guy with race car and a suit of lightbulbs?). Anyway, I haven't seen the new one, and I was curious if it would be any good (cuz that Total Recall remake should have been totally recalled). I do like Glen Powell, I'm sure he could carry the film like Arnold was able to.

I am shocked... SHOCKED I tell you... the movies you've skipped over. A man at your age? You should be ashamed. If you haven't watched Caddyshack yet, you should just dig yourself a grave and go to sleep forever. (Just kidding... seriously, go watch the Schwarzenegger version, you won't regret it.... even though it's a different director, it feels very much like a sibling to Total Recall, even has some of the same actors besides Schwarzzie. Maybe not top Schwarzzie movie, but definitely in there. I wish the rest of the movie was amazing as the first part).

I'd like to see the new Running Man when it hits streaming. The original is good, though I remember more of the action sequences in the game than what happens in the first 3rd of the movie. Richard Dawson as the host was an inspired casting choice.

Begonia. A conspiracy theorist white trash dude and his autistic cousin kidnap a CEO, believing she's an alien poisoning the human race. They ambush her at her house and take her into their basement, demanding she contact her emperor and allow them to teleport to the mother ship for diplomatic negotiations to leave earth alone. It sounds wild, but it gets even wilder. I love that the whole time, you can't tell if the dude is crazy, or if the woman is an alien. I mean, she's not an alien, that's weird, she's just a normal, high-profile American CEO.

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, who usually makes a banger. The cast is very small and well placed. Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are great as the main characters. Alicia Silverstone has a really small roll as Jesse Plemons' mom. Stavros Halkias plays a very weird character, it's hard to tell what he "did" all those years ago. Aidan Delbis plays the cousin, this is his first film.

Definitely see this, but be warned it has some gory moments. The social commentary is really good, even though this movie (like most of Lanthimos') does cross into absurdism. Perfect movie for the current climate.

Mercy. Went in thinking it would be a Minority Report rip off, but left pleasantly surprised. I would recommend it. Gripping, fun. Didn't even mind Chris Pratt.

Good film w some nice chaos, but a few plot few flaws and half an hr too long

For some reason the cinema decided to crank the volume really LOUD - which was punishing in a movie where there’s lots of shouting… also highlighted the weird soundtrack - really clunky w badly used music and scores to dramatise a scene - very heavy handed and overplayed

A Mark Mothersbaugh score it was not, still - I was entertained and the aircon was cold, and as a fan and player of table tennis it got me thinking I need to work on my game!

Resurrection is pretty special if you’re into visually stunning, surrealist, but sweet and funny (like some David Lynch) filmmaking. It’s a masterclass in the history (and possible future) of cinema, to boot. Even M83’s soundtrack is great.

Watched the new Naked Gun movie. It was entertaining enough. We need more comedies 90 minutes or less.

Sinners. Awesome take on vampires. Totally not what I expected. What seemed to be a period piece leading up to something like From Dusk Til Dawn took a really unexpected turn. The connections between characters and the time period were all very interesting. Loved the tie in with the old blues legend. Loved the epilogue, too.

It's over thirty years old now, and has been on the Criterion Channel before, but it wasn't until the other day that I finally got around to seeing Pialat's Van Gogh, starring none other than Jacques Dutronc as the now-famous painter. Watched it on a region-free Blu-ray. It is, in my opinion, a very good movie, regardless of how accurate it may be. It's well written, shot beautifully, has Van Gogh gallivanting with whores and lady folk and his doctor and his family, and Theo, etc. All around it was a breath of fresh air, very French, and highly endearing. I already liked Pialat but this is one of his best.

Saw Bonnie and Clyde yesterday. Loved it.
