Its pretty awesome when you dont have to load out after a show. Like, say, if you're way older than your band mates and dont feel like partying past your bed time you can split and get yourself home. Also 20 years ago when I moved here I had zero time for gig bags. Now I have zero time for any case that doesnt have straps.TylerDeadPine wrote: Fri Mar 03, 2023 9:53 amI was blown away by that in NYC - I wish that had been the case in Toronto where there was enough backlines around that it trained people to bring nothing, but wasn't consistent enough to count on. Seemingly if you're an out of town band, all the in-town bands expected to use your gear because they all took the subway to the show.Dr Tony Balls wrote: Thu Mar 02, 2023 1:43 pmNot sure your locale but at least here (NYC) sharing is not usually the norm, but a venue-provided partial backline definitely is the norm. Almost everything i've played in recent history (bar/venue type places) has drums, hardware, and a bass amp. Drummers bring snare, cymbals, kick pedal, clutch, usually. Sometimes they have a guitar cab or two as well, but not always. Sometimes they'll even have guitar amps, but that's not very common.Owen wrote: Thu Mar 02, 2023 10:47 am Is sharing a kit (bring your snare, cymbals, kick pedal) and cabs the norm now?
There is one notable exception (Union Pool) which specifically suggests band coordination and sharing because they dont have much in terms of backline, and they have limited storage space.
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1162I've made a few of various type. Made some optical guys a few years ago along the lines of the old DOD 280 and still have one on the shelf. I also have a number of metal can CA3080s and a grip of 2SC1849s for accurate Ross Compressor clones (which is really all the same family as the Jangle, Analogman, Keeley, MXR, etc).
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1163The flip side of that is it may help you not squeeze so hard with your left hand. But yeah, unless you're looking to go EIGHT MILES HIGH all the time compression isn't an exciting effect, and anything solid under $100 is the way to go (not a DynaComp fan here. Mushy)MoreSpaceEcho wrote: Fri Mar 03, 2023 10:10 am I got a Keeley Compressor+ a little bit ago, and kind of quickly came to the conclusion that most of the time I really don't like compression on guitar. Obviously it works great for some things, but for me it felt like there was a governor on my right hand. Do Not Like.
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1164When I built my 12 string I had a friend make me a straight up Janglebox clone (the basic one with just two knobs and a toggle). I love it. And I find the bright/dark switches really useful depending on the amp. At a subtle setting, both knobs at about 12:00, it gives that undulating, almost slightly modulated sound that I love so much in a 12 string. It reigns everything in. The interplay of the strings can sound like some are standing out unflatteringly without a comp, but with the right one...it's just heaven. Like it's breathing when you play a chord. It really is a beautiful sound. I like simple pedals, more than 2 or 3 knobs and I have to start writing down settings. The Janglebox is perfect for me.four_oclocker_2.2 wrote: Fri Mar 03, 2023 9:42 am COMPRESSOR PEDALS
Buying a new 12-string, seems like a compressor pedal would be nice to have.
Janglebox? Analogman CompRossor? Xotic SP? Does Dr. Balls make a compressor?

1165Anyone have a metronome/click app they like? Would be nice to have for practice purposes.
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1166On my phone I have been using a free one called "pro metronome." It's great but I'm a little hesitant to recommend any free app as I'm sure it's doing some sort of data harvesting or whatever. But yeah, I really like it & use the tap tempo feature the most.penningtron wrote: Fri Mar 03, 2023 1:08 pm Anyone have a metronome/click app they like? Would be nice to have for practice purposes.
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1167I use youtube in a pinch. I totally forgot that I had I bought a bunch of drum machine/metronome/drone tuners apps over the years for pedal steel practice until I saw this. Downloaded again! But I think I prefer little external ones - some of them have headphone jacks if you need the click quiet
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1168Apparently google has its own metronome, too. Just search metronome. Never knew
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
1169My go-to is just called “Metronome” by EUMLab. Tap tempo. Virtual wheel to set tempo. Bunch of subdivision options.
Although lately I like this little Tama Rhythm Watch I bought for my kid.

1170Never thought to just google/youtube search BPMs. The built in google one is pretty nifty. Ah what an age..
