Who were they, and why were they here?

I spent a few minutes doing my normal trademark nosing around and I might have found a couple of answers when I get some responses to the emails I just sent.

I noticed that guitarist Bubba Dupree's real name is 'Jon DuPree'. Apparently, He is the one blocking Touch and Go from releasing the album they recorded. I think he may have formed a band with Graham McCulloch from Negative Approach and The Meatmen. Dupree was the guitarist/singer and wrote all the songs. They were called Earth 18 and had one album called 'Butterfly'. Apparently it was a glam rock/grunge affair. Here is a shot of them -

So I gather it didn't work out too well. Then he moved on to work with former Soundgarden bassist Ben Sheppard in a band called Unkmongoni. Since then he has played on Dave Grohl's Probot project and apparently guested on an Alta May album. Incredibly he's actually also Moby's touring guitarist of choice and many times I have found him referenced as "Ex-Moby". He also seems to have played with a 'supergroup' called Spys4Darwin with the rhythm section from Alice In Chains, the singer from Sponge and the guitarist from Queensryche.

As for Bassist Chris Stover -

Chris Stover wrote:I do software consulting. My family lives in San Francisco and we are expecting our second kid. A friend of mine and I run a small label called Blue Bus.

Blus Bus seems to have closed it's doors. They did however release the debut single by future Swami rockers The Husbands. Now Stover seems to play in numerous Jazz bands as a hobby.

Drummer Sean Finnegan and vocalist John Weiffenbach have literally fallen off the earth. Maybe one of my stray emails will catch them. I'll update if I hear anymore news.

The Crownhate Ruin were Fred Erskine and Joe McRedmond from Hoover and drummer Vin Novara. After the band split in 96 they reformed briefly as Hoover to record the songs they had written before they split. Hoover also plays occasional reunion shows. Erskine went on to form the post-rock band June Of 44 and has also played with HiM (the Ny post-rock band), Trans Am and Just A Fire. Interestingly enough, Vin Novarra plays piano in The Sorts with former Hoover drummer Chris Farral. McRedmond and Erskine have both played with The Sorts on occasions.

Branch Manager split in 1997 after only two albums. They actually played their last ever show in my hometown of Leeds in West Yorkshire. Not many people know that Branch Manager actually formed from the band Foundation, with whom both Ron Winters and Dave Allen played in the mid 80s. Dave Allen (he was the bassist but it's not the guy from Gang of Four smartypants) went on to play with The Maginot Line along with former members of Corm, the band that also gave us Q and Not U. Scarily enough drummer Desmond Decker also played in AOR rockers Emmett Swinging.
