Believe it or not, the first three records by the godawful Tangerine Dream (Electronic Meditation, Alpha Centauri, Zeit) are three incredible psychedelic records.

It's a fine line between psychedelic and stoner. When does the trip turn from groovy to acid casualty? I'm assuming your into the good trip sound. My diet for that psychedelic would include the flamin' groovies, chocolate watch band, os mutantes, etc. What really gets me is just sound of all music recorded with a psychedelic production quality. They're usually one hit wonders of the era.

A friend of mine recently turned me on to some Turkish acid rock from the late '60s and early '70s. Some of it is really awesome. Eastern music was such a big influence on '60s psychedelic music, and it's really cool to hear those traditional melodies done properly. There's also a lot of straight-up adaptations of Western "beat" music, surf rock and the like. A lot of this stuff sounds like it would fit in perfectly with any of the Nuggets compilations.
I'll post up a selection of the best stuff in the Sendspace thread tonight or tomorrow.

There is a phenomenal band in Minneapolis called The Flavor Crystals who are often categorized as "psychedelic." Whether this label is spot on or not, The Flavor Crystals are one of very few bands that I recommend to others without hesitation, as -- by my reckoning -- their music is impossible not to like on some level. The Flavor Crystals' first record On Plastic is solid from start to finish. On inside info, I can share that they just finished recording with Kramer, and the soon-to-be-released album that resulted from that session is stellar.

I didn't go back to check, but has someone mentioned Lilys yet?
Did *I* mention Lilys yet?
Probably.
As modern psych music goes, they are (he is) great.
The first record is just too MBV.
After that his records go from psych, to psych pop, to a great electronic drone project that will go head to head with anything from the 70's, to space rock.
Kurt Heasley really *gets* psych music in all of it's forms.
Also, Beta Band did their own version. Sort of psych folk with some loops every now and then. I think they were really under rated.
I might have mentioned both of them before I put in my vote for Nuggets I and Nuggets II, which are essential for every human being on the planet.

Really? I thought the general consensus was that
Zeit was bullshit, but I haven't heard it. Is it underrated?
