He was interested in talking politics on the air, and MSNBC fought him. It's all in his new book.

I can't wait to read that thing.

MSNBC got him under contract then refused to play. He knows better then to sign a contract like that. We were a union station and he had a contract with the station that didn't involve the union. He was a AFTRA/SAG member...

The whole story sounds mishigas.

i'd believe it. heard a good interview with ventura on the radio the other night. very refreshing.

tangentially related: here is a telling quote from the announcement of the cancellation of donahue's msnbc show back in february '03:

"Donahue's final show will be Friday night. The news show that precedes him on the air, "Countdown: Iraq," temporarily will be expanded to two hours to replace him."

man, if that doesn't say it all.

i didn't think he was good though, unfortunately.
he was one of the undisputed masters of not asking the obvious follow-up.
& those follow-ups have been sorely missed these past years.

all the same, sad news for those around him.

ditto.

My new tag.

Tim Russert was superdad. He apparently reversed the abuse cycle in his family. That's a pretty decent feat in itself.

Well, unless you were in the Russert family, I'd say his tireless work to ensure that America believed in the fixed election of 2000 probably had significantly more impact on your life. But whatever. Make the TV people your heroes.

Who watches TV anymore? Jesus. Fucking get with it already.

Paging Rick Reuben. 21st century calling!
