my stepdad brought home Chronic Town on the advice of a friend along with a stack of other records, this was around the time it came out. he didn't realize it was an EP so we sat around listening to in to 33 for a side, thinking 'dang, this band is pretty weird.'
if only REM had been THAT band.

Hey, maybe Michigan Chick-Filet's are different than Georgian Chick-Filet's. It wouldn't surprise me. Especially since the one Chick-Filet I've ever had the (dis)pleasure of eating in is basically a one-stop shop cafeteria version of it. The chicken there is soggy as old cereal and has a flavor that resembles what I imagine shoe leather tastes like. Except with garlic powder mixed in. Or something. Anyway, it probably wasn't a representative sample.

Alright. Since I've heard Chronic Town and the Radio Free Europe single actually have some real energy, I'll try and find both of them. hey, while I remember, sendspace me that EP with the neil young cover sometime, I never got around to hearing it and I want to.

The best grits in Athens can be had at...
The Grit...
which is owned by...
...REM.
And now you know...the rest.... of the
story.

That makes sense. That they'd have to buy The Grit because their music doesn't have any.

The Grit is owned by Jessica Hafer, widow of
Ted Hafer.
The
building is owned by a REM Athens, Ltd., but the business itself is self-supporting without any input from REM, other than what the various members spend on samosas and chardonnay.
And their grits are crap. Grits - bacon grease = shit.

One good album - Green - does not make a band.

When released, Green was easily the worst REM to date.
