Not to be pedantic, but McSorley's is in the East Village, not NoHo.

But yeah, it's a good time and definitely worth checking out if you like old-timey bars, especially if you can hit it at an off hour, when it's not crammed w/bros and college kids. But everyone goes there, don't let that deter you. It's an institution, the prices are good, the beer is ok, and it's a somewhat unique experience.

No worries. I'm bad with neighborhoods in NYC and just went with the word that was the closest on Google maps.

Yep, it's a strange place, like it really does feel like the hangover of a place that used to be important, but depending on your attitude you can have a lot of fun. Excellent used clothing places. Going up the mountain on the cable car is great if you are okay with heights and being crammed with strangers (post covid no clue what this is like). Sherman's is a great jewish deli/diner. Bootleggers is a good tiki/cocktail bar with a good coffee shop attached to it. There are some really amazing desert mountain drives around, Joshua tree, you're not too far from Anza-Borrego desert, the wind tunnels are great as is the oasis hike.
It's been awhile - things are more expensive in the winter though

Yes -- Abe Lincoln had a beer there after (or before?) his famous address at Cooper Union across the street, it still kinda has that vibe. Haven't been there in ages.

I grew up on UWS, my fave spots:

- Sal & Carmines, 102nd & Bway -- maybe the best slice.

- Cathedral of St John the Divine -- amazing place even if you don't dig Church. There's a cool Keith Haring altar at the very back.

- Riverside Park

- Jerusalem Falafel -- 104th & Bway

The Metropolitan Museum is (of course) across the park but it's truly incredible and one of my most favorite places in the whole city. You can wander aimlessly for hours and everything you find will be amazing. American Museum of Natural History on the west side is also super cool.

Also - Last week my buddy saw Flaco the fugitive Eurasian owl chilling in Central Park near 96 st on the west side.

Thanks a million for the UWS recs! Yep, we'll be spending pretty much every afternoon at the Met. Can't wait.

I am going to be in Denver for work next month and have never been. I am staying pretty much right downtown (really close to The Denver Art Museum). Any record stores, food stuffs to check out?

Wax Trax, about a mile from where you’re staying, is a very good record store. I have no idea where to eat in that city anymore; Benny Blanco’s a couple doors down from Wax Trax still has a great slice. Find a breakfast burrito with green chili. I can certainly point you to some good breweries.

My wife and I are looking to take a long weekend/short-ish week somewhere near water (like a three-minute walk) and natural beauty. Access to good restaurants and shit is great but not necessarily crucial, access to good beer a plus but not particularly important. Have had a few suggestions from friends/coworkers and North Carolina's Outer Banks is the frontrunner for me at the moment. I have never been to the South, the PNW, Vermont, or New York state. Some sort of coast would be great, but lakes are also welcome. Currently taking recommendations.

Seattle for sure, if the Sound is enough water for ya (and not really swimmable). You could also take a ferry across the Sound, lots of great beer, good food, etc. If you stay downtown or just outside (lower Queen Anne, Capitol Hill) you can get around via public transit fairly easily. Happy OF COURSE to give you more suggestions if you go this route!!!

I love Seattle and agree that's a great place to go for great food, drinks, and scenery. Maybe not so much if you actually want to go in the water as implied.

I've been going to the Gulf beaches near St. Petersburg, Florida on vacation for almost my entire life (40+ years), first with my parents, and now with my wife and kids. It is my absolute favorite place in the world; a nice middle ground of not being incredibly busy (even during Spring Break) while still having a lot of things to do nearby. The condo building we usually stay at is https://www.jcresorts.us/ram-sea/, though there are plenty of other hotels and old-school beach motels nearby that are fun, too. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars that are walkable from the above condo building, and there's a trolley that goes up and down to other beach towns if you want to minimize or eliminate the need for a car.

My wife and I went to Chincoteague Virginia last summer by error. We were driving to South Carolina to spend 7 days at in a time share with my in-laws. 8 hours into the first day drive we get a call my Mother In-Law got COVID and they are turning around. Time share won't have us without them, so we are fucked. So we had to plan a entire new vacation from a Holiday Inn on the road. My wife was like what about Chincoteague? I had never ever heard of it, and it turned out to be a very relaxing island. They have wild horses! I did not expect to see the wild horses, but I ended up seeing them 4 or 5 times, it was incredible. We stayed on the water, which was great for just sitting by and breathing in the salt air with a drink or two. If you want to swim there is a beach about 5ish min on the other side of the island by car or you can rent bikes and do it in 10. I ate at Captain Zacks 4 different times enjoying the hell out of their seafood options. Plenty of fresh fish markets if you want to cook your own stuff. Tons of nature, nature everywhere. A light house. A tiny art house theatre that was playing The Road Warrior the day we got there. Type it into google image search and that is really what you get. I am very "want to relax and disconnect" when I am on vacation, and I was able to do that and see a bunch of shit . Everything is close by 10 min max on the island, if you want to drive out there tons of other stuff, but I was content on the island proper. OH, ice cream, they have two incredible ice cream places, that would put me in my grave if I lived nearby.
