The thing about Jim Morrison is that nobody would care about his lyrics if he hadn’t called himself a poet. His lyrics are really no worse than anything you’d hear on a Hendrix or Cream record, but they’re also no better.
Lou Reed was sometimes a good lyricist, but he was often a terrible one.

122Shit, I thought I had something re: Jawbreaker, but, can't refute, even though 19 year old me LOVED 24 hr revenge therapy (and there are about 2 or 3 days a year when nostalgia kicks in). Husker Du's lyrics are really good if you're in 8th grade and pretty much crap after that.
..who, while we're in this thread, were never good. Emo Green Day, yawn.

Goodfellas is a pretty bad movie, and Ray Liotta is a terrible actor.
Bad slow motion, the overhead camera every time somebody does a line of blow and throws their head back, gimme shelter in every fucking movie. UGH

125Jane Campion's latest, The Power of the Dog, is streaming on Netflix. You have some more male nudity in that one as well.Mickey242 wrote: Mon Dec 13, 2021 7:33 pm What's good on NetFlix? The Piano where you get a full frontal of the dudes wang,

126Are you talking Bobby or post-Bobby? Sure, Westerberg's had some clunkers, but overall I'd say he's written more good songs than bad.handsbloodyhands wrote: Tue Dec 14, 2021 9:53 am The Replacement's lyrics are really good if you're in 12th grade and pretty much crap after that.
Re: Tipping The Sacred Cows 2.0
127Bit of a hearsay thing, but I read a book by an admittedly blowhard producer Bob Evans (The Kid Stays in the Picture). He told a tale of a Godfather movies as a directionless pile of footage, a collage of scenes, and an endless tangled yarn that the actors were trying their damndest to prop up. According to him, the editor rescued it. The Great Gatsby and the Cotton Club afterward are crap. Apocalypse Now is amazing, but in part because of the chaotic era, mood, shooting and acting. You could see it as the best set of circumstances with material, talented actors, and unmanaged chaos.brownreasontolive wrote: Tue Dec 14, 2021 10:37 amI'm interested to hear more.losthighway wrote: Mon Dec 13, 2021 7:51 pm Francis Ford Coppola was an incompetent director whose most successful films were thanks to skilled contributors outside of the director's chair.

(Waffles for the SE HInton films which are kind of cool)
Now this is a little blowhard on my part as there are plenty of Coppola films I haven't seen. As I indicated pages ago, I kind of enjoy dismissing something or someone grand and then getting reeducated. Kind of a reverse troll thing. So if anyone knows the brilliance of Peggy Sue Got Married or Finian's Rainbow, jump right in.

129Adapted by Coppola, but not directed by him (and he claims his script wasn't actually used by the director).losthighway wrote: Tue Dec 14, 2021 11:12 amThe Great Gatsbybrownreasontolive wrote: Tue Dec 14, 2021 10:37 amI'm interested to hear more.losthighway wrote: Mon Dec 13, 2021 7:51 pm Francis Ford Coppola was an incompetent director whose most successful films were thanks to skilled contributors outside of the director's chair.
