There are still a bunch of bass/gtr/drum bands with actual 20 year olds playing regular guitars and amps. The laptops on stage thing has been going back a long time. Pods have been out for forever. People are now getting the same sound out of plugins that people used to get from racks. I know that because I am buying the racks for $150-$250 now. You just didn’t hear words like “workflow” and “user interface” used so much outside of work.

Not everything in the future is new, some stuff gets more the same.
I don't think the idea behind the tech is especially new, but a lot of how it is implemented is fairly "modern" and the quality is a lot higher. Having most of what is heard on stage being pre programmed and automated, including FX switching and visuals all being programed isn't a new idea, but a 15 year old has access to it like never before. You can do it from an iPad. In ear monitors as the norm, no "real" amps or a speaker of any kind on stage isn't unheard of. It's just an evolution of all that stuff that has been around for a long time. The idea of what a band is or should be is broader than it was 20 years ago for sure. It trickles down to the intent of the music completely. An entire album of songs is not necessarily the goal of writing a bunch of songs compared to trickling out "drops" on social media. Spotify rewards that style of release. Shit's just a little different. I would argue Social media has made 20 year olds giving a shit about what other 20 year olds are doing and caring if they know what you are doing a lot tighter of a focus that it was for me when I was 20 for damn sure.

I plan on keeping this intact as long as possible.
Good luck. By the time she is 15 she will be 3d printing Blooze Tonez directly into your neural link via blue tooth!

They play shows at regular ass dive bars and all, just not w/ guitar amps!
Yeah, same with those kids in North Dakota. Though I'm glad that y'all are tuned into to a bunch of young people making video game music!

Probably a million things but then in-ear monitors are the visible difference. I’m looking at you Fucked Up, I want you sloppy!
Are bands using in-ears at the small (200 and under) club level these days? And if so, do clubs generally accommodate musicians who bring them? I’m very much of the “irresponsibly loud monitor blasting in my left ear to be heard over my drums” generation and am now in need of hearing aids. So I guess chalk that up for IEMs at least.
