The sub-$250 Acrolite is becoming kind of a rare thing unless it's super beat up. I will say I think the lightweight aluminum Acrolite (and maybe the 8 vs 10 lugs) sounds a little more full and resonant all else being equal. I find myself fighting with treble-y overtones of the SL more than other snares but a fauxskin head or a little tape will balance it out. I like it best for dry but cutting stuff (which lately means fast bop and grindcore, and the almost non-existent overlap of those two..)
