How did this go? Which shipping option did you use? Did you receive the mic before the bill or did it show up after? Tariff shit seems to only be getting worse and I've still got some stuff that hasn't shipped yet.
I just bought a decent looking one from an ebay store in japan and they shipped fedex. I had assumed I didn’t have to worry about it once I got the mic without a customs hold, but I received a bill from Fedex a couple weeks later. It was a paper letter with a bill from Fedex to pay online and had all the correct info. It was legit.

It was something like ~ $84 for the tariff (mic was $848) and then a $16 processing fee. Plus I was already paying Texas sales tax on it. All in over $1k but still better than Reverb prices, though I had already picked a relatively expensive one by Japan standards, I wasn’t planning to spend that much. The $700-ish ones looked like total shit and ones less than that were inoperable, so I thought ai was going for a happy medium. If I bought another one I would just plan on getting dead mint if I was already going to spend that much on fees.

I’m sure there’s stuff where bills may never come or come late, but mine wasn’t too long after I received the mic.
I bought a guitar in France for $2000 in 2024. Got a shipping notification in 2025. A few days later I got a bill from UPS for around $900 that needed to be paid prior to delivery.

Goddamn $900 is no joke. I don’t want to jinx anything but I wonder if I have a bill coming.

In other news, very non-foreign natural American Warm Audio 47s are $599 for the Stupid Deal of the Day. I thought about getting one to support 100% domestic manufacturing against China but I just paid off a bunch of stuff. And I could still get an Audio Technica 4060 for the same price that I would probably be happier with. Yay Japan!

I stopped to look at this today. Definitely a homemade thing, covered in paisley vinyl wallpaper. Completely sealed, no ports. It's also deceivingly small, just slightly bigger than the speaker itself. Maybe about 75% the size of TL606. I didn't even bother trying it. No way to tell what speaker is in there.

It was 5 minutes off my normal route home from work, so no sweat.
