Extremely old Melvins footage from 1984. I've never seen Buzz this skinny! Recommended for Melvins fans only.

For at least 17 years the Melvins have been one of my top 5 favorite bands ever and I have been aping their sound and style for almost as long. They are one of three all time favorite bands I wish I could have been in. When I first heard them it was "Boris" and I couldn't figure out if the record should be played at 33 1/3 or 45 RPMs. Once I realized it was supposed to be that slow, I was hooked.

I have seen them at least two dozen times since 1991, and some shows were great, some were meh, but none ever sucked. The best one I saw was 2001 or '02 at the Double Door in Chicago when David Yow came out on stage and performed "Blockbuster" with them. Jesus Fucking Christ that was a great and fleeting moment of rock history. Another great one was watching them play "Sacrifice" extra slow and long to a crowd of pissed off Primus fans at the Orpheum in Boston in 1993.

I interviewed them a few times when I was in college, even the same week Curt Cobain killed himself. My friends in ISIS are now their label mates and have opened for them. So I have had the opportunity to socialize with Buzz and Dale a bit. They have always been gracious and friendly guys, particularly Dale, and even while he was still in shock from the news of his best friend's suicide.

I agree with the Mayor above - if you don't "get" the Melvins then I just have no time to make music with you. I don't care how many other "heavy" and "metal" bands you like, if you can't find the rock, the genius, the tragedy and the comedy of the Melvins then I just can't help you.

It is totally awesome. Joe Preston on bass. King Buzzo with a mohawk. "Bullhead" era set. Woah.

Interesting. I've always found Buzz to be more personable.

At any rate, the fact that they're such nice people makes it that much easier to like their music.

Their new album is great, by the way.

Very 70's, but more "rock" than "heavy."

hahha i saw this one once. it confirmed many theories i've had about this band. no cynical theories of course, just vague theories about how they are so heavy.
