you are quite right.

i have a point i just don't know the right words to express it. like i said, i'm really quite stupid. bear with me.

what i'm trying to put into words that i would happily mock any other human being because i do not make any distinction between one or another. does anyone else see what i'm getting at? chris makes fun of everyone, so i expect him to make fun of homosexuals because he wants to make people laugh in his own peculiar way. i don't think it's because he is prejudiced against people. i think it may be the complete opposite in fact.

Adam I'm suprised at you really thinking there's an imbalance in the world of rock because more women just don't like it. There are ACTUAL women here ACTUALLY telling you what it's like on the other side.

Ok, if that's the way it really looks from side then I can accept that but I genuinely have no idea how I should best modify my behaviour so as to be less offensive to you, although I simultaneously offer apologies for any offense caused.

I'd like more proof of that other than because you say so.

Sorry, but since you are trying to limit what people say here, you need to give a very good reason for it beyond this unverifiable statement.

You say there is a "boy's bathroom atmosphere" here. I would say that the majority of the commentary here doesn't fall under that characterization at all.

Therefore I would offer my original advice of ignoring it when it does come up. Which is to say, not often.

"Countless" is a lot.

I've run across this problem on other rock music-related boards. The tug of war invariably develops between alienating those who don't want to be censored or who don't want to start down a slippery slope of having to watch what they say regardless of its intent and those who want everyone to feel included and protected from offense or who just want more diversity in the board regulars.

Hard to say exactly how to strike the proper balance. I'm sure it seems easy to those who are offended at the given moment, but generally, very difficult.

I think maybe part of the problem is that when someone does feel offended or uncomfortable her views are blasted to pieces in 7 pages... maybe...

I think this board is delightful, but I also think the USA and Michigan State University are great. If you get my drift.

Whatever one might think about Chris_Dragon's lesbian fetish, I have to say that I really don't believe that the lack of women forum members is in any way related to an inherent chauvinism here.

It's an easy, and doubtless tempting claim to make, but it's not true.

1 Take a look at the threads on this page. The only one relating to sexuality/gender is this one. There are other threads relating to music, politics, babies, food, music, guitars, money, health, music, animals and music. Which of these threads would dissuade a woman from posting here?

The answer is clearly the music threads because...

2 For reasons too subtle for me to even guess at, this macho, cock-driven, oft-violent, sweat-stinking, dirty, nerdy thing we find at uncomfortable perimeter of rock is far, far more popular with males than females. Don't ask me why, it just is.

There are some things which for reasons of tradition, historical societal pressure and perhaps even genetics are more popular with one gender than the other. Sure, in time hopefully the tradition and societal pressure will die away, but in the mean time it's really not fair to blame the males who inhabit this forum for the lack of female members.

My only response to this is that I AM A FEMALE who also PLAYS THE DRUMS, therefore your theory about women being less interested in this "dirty, nerdy...blah blah blah thing we call rock" holds no water in my opinion. I can't count the number of women who hear that I am a drummer and immediately follow it up with a comment, such as, "That is so cool! I always wanted to play the drums but I was always so intimidated because the only musicians I knew were guys..."

Fortunately for me I was just naive enough to not give that stuff a second thought so I asked my parents for a drumset. However, I am terribly disappointed when I think about all the women who would have otherwised picked up an instrument if they weren't intimidated by the boys club. Hell, I have gay male musician friends who are sometimes turned off by the music scen because of the locker room banter that goes on.

I do not. Perhaps you could explain it in a way that involves math?

Bonus points for objectifying Lazybones.

I can't because it doesn't involve math.
