I'm almost positive it was not David Riley waiving the cane around. I can't picture david Riley head banging and waiving a cane around to his old band mates. However, he did suffer a stroke which could have caused him to use a cane.

Cane Guy was a guy named Eric from Salt Lake City. He writes for SLUG Magazine (www.slugmag.com). I'd met him at SXSW in March when he came to a showcase I was working and introduced himself. He mentioned something about breaking his hip a week ago when I ran into him at Touch and Go on Friday. I assume he had press passes or something to get backstage during Shellac's show but I don't know for sure. He was quite the spectacle, no?

Irritating or entertaining? It's hard to be indifferent towards Cane Guy. Salut, Cane Guy!

And a special thanks to a dude from Minneapolis named Mitch. He said he was friends with the band Triclops. Anyway, Mitch shared his stash with half the crowd on the left side of the stage for Shellac/Big Black. It helped with the claustrophobia of all the people there to see Big Black.

Thank you, Mitch. Your name is now synonymous with one who freely shares his good fortune.

T&G25 was amazing. Great people and great music. Thanks to the social skills of C_D I met too many of you to remember. I got roasted on Thursday and Friday, cooled on Saturday, damp on Sunday, and saturated on Monday. I marvelled at so many tall and elegant buildings, be they visible or enshrouded in cloud.

I watched as many bands as possible from as close as possible, I think I only missed MoAM, Negative Approach and Tara Jane ONeil whilst I was either eating or keeping a good spot at the other stage. The Shipping News were truly outstanding, they create a unique atmosphere, and playing live had a LOT more power and rock than on record. The perfect start to the festival. The New Year made my eyes well up with tears on Saturday with their beauty, there’s no more I need say than that. Uzeda were so tight and loose and loud. The Ex played the most fucked up rock music I’ve ever heard and bled for their art. Tim and Andy and Matt played 1 glorious song that was constantly on the edge of falling apart. Scratch Acid was slightly spoiled by having to keep an eye out for the flying elbows of flying idiots, a shame as what was coming off stage was awesome. Big Black started with firecrackers and I smiled, I still can’t believe I’ve seen Big Black play. Shellac are probably the best rock band, they are the complete package of music and entertainment. I wish that everyone one in the world could have experienced that show. Arcwelder exploded off the stage on Sunday, one of the highlights without doubt, absolutely incredible performance. CocoRosie have required a leap of faith both times I’ve seen them live, but once the leap was made they warmed the cold evening air. Calexico was such a disappointing finish to the weekend. But I won’t dwell on them, I will mostly dwell on:

The New Year
The Ex
Shellac
Arcwelder

You know, it's been really nice to see that so many people enjoyed their set. They're seriously the nicest guys ever, one of my all time favorites, and so it warms the heart to see them get so much love.

This was a breathtaking weekend. I have 3 personal highlights:

- Brick Layer Cake
- Kissing David Yow
- The "drum circle" at the end of the best Shellac set ever.

Outside of the festival itself:

- Push Pull! Tom Stack please book these fine gentlemen at Circle A so I can throw a goddamn party!
- Johnny 13's BBQ made me almost as happy as actually being able to see Big Black live. And that's fucking happy.
