I bet I can talk them down to $250.https://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/msg/ ... 67161.htmlI ended up grabbing this today. He said original tolex, but he meant grille cloth, as there isn't any tolex left. It's been painted black. Two of the speakers were dead, including one of the newer ones, which had completely lost its magnet. There wasn't a magnet in the cab though. It was basically a dummy cone in there, so somebody obviously knew that it was broken and still put the dead speaker back in there. One of the originals on the top right was also dead (open coil). I brought along a 9V battery to touch to the cable and it was pretty obvious that the two of them weren't working, so made a lower offer and he took it.Date code on the original speakers is 7329. They're the square-back alnico CTS speakers that came in the early cabs, kinda the holy grail for these things. The two replacements were OEM Ampegs made by Eminence for the new 810 cabs. I'll probably get that CTS reconed at some point, but for now, I'm getting two new Jensen MOD 50 Watters in there in the correct 32 ohm impedance just to get it up and running. People seem to like them in these things.I'll probably refin the cab eventually with some of that leftover Deckover paint that I used on the Sunn Beta Bass head that I built a new shell for a few years ago. I've got most of a gallon left that I brought with me from Denver. Grille cloth is dirty, but mostly intact. I need to redo the velcro that holds in on though. Might also install some of the plastic rails that the new ones come with on the back to protect it.

One of them was that the power amps were almost always heavier and deeper to the back than would sit comfortably on a speaker or fit in a rack case. At 7/7 deep, this new XLS series seems to address that pretty well! The other thing is somehow these never really sounded right to me when I tried them out. But I don't know if I was doing something wrong or what. For a while my bass rig was a sansamp bass driver into the effects return of a 2000RB...so why would that be any different? That's basically just a poweramp at that point so no idea what I was doing wrong here. Anyway! Very interested to see how you dig it.Yeah, I've been using my 400RB as a power amp for years and years, but I think there is some tone coloring going on there (the boost still has some impact on volume, etc). The XLS will shave 7-8 lbs from the rackmount. Seems like the folks in the 1978 solid state pre-amp thread had good experiences with the XLS series. Ben is also making hybrid versions of the Meatsmoke now with stereo Class D power amps and the tube pre, so I'd assume he's had good results with something not totally unlike this. Also, I'm slightly afraid of my 400RB finally crapping out, and even if I don't end up using the power amp for the bass rig, I'm sure I can find something else to use it for in the near future!Just wanted to update that I think the MS pre-amp with the XLS power amp sounds amazing! I think I may slightly prefer it to the 400RB...definitely seems less colored than before, and closer to what I get with the 200 watt Meatsmoke head that I have.

One of these is on its way to meFor whatever reason, i've been taken by oddballs and underdog guitars lately. I've got a song I'd like to record and it's longing for the sound of lipstick pickups in series. Should be fun! I guess these are the current version and manufacture has been brought back to Korea... they've made a few "improvements" (bridge) and made a short run of these using up some NOS lipsticks from the original '90s reissues. i'm really looking forward to it arriving.
