Hey, agreed!
When I was Straight Edge it meant no Booze, drugs -including coffee and smokes-, veganism, no sex with girlies that weren't a steady girlfriend... I guess things have loosened up.
I don't know about that. I did some research on Straight Edge a while ago because I didn't know if I was Straight Edge or not. What I found out was that there is no SxE Pope or Governing Council to answer my question. The only things that pretty much everyone agreed on were: no drinking, no smoking, no "hard" drugs, and no going back. If you "used to be straight edge" you weren't
really straight edge, you just thought you were. This is the meaning of "True till death." You can become straight edge, but you can't become not straight edge. Some consider this ridiculous, but I think it's perfectly reasonable. "Straight Edge" is not a well-defined term, and what definition it has comes from within its own community. If they wish to self-define that term in that way, I'm okay with it. The other things - caffeine, medicinal drugs, premarital sex, extra-relationship-al sex, veganism, devotion to hard core punk rock, the violent imposition of SxE beliefs and practices on others, and even vegetarianism - all seemed to be up for debate. I decided that I was "probably not" really Straight Edge. I might casually mention in conversation, if it comes up, that I'm straight edge, but if pressed, I will readily admit that I am Not Really.
I digressed again! Oh my!
