I can't say I'm a great fan. It was the fact that all the metal heads in school were fat, greasy, spotty, throw their weight around at school disco wankstains who sported AC/DC or Iron Maiden T-shirts.

So, I have to vote crap. But maybe one day I'll get over it and give them a second listen.

Back In Black was one of the first albums I ever purchased, on cassette, at a store in a strip mall in Edina that was also one of the first places I recall being able to rent VHS tapes. I remember being slightly scared by the cover art and worried that I was buying something "evil", though after the first listen my worries went away.

The second concert I ever went to was AC/DC on the "Thunderstruck" tour (Love/Hate opened). During "Money Talks" fake dollars w/ Angus's face rained down from the ceiling. They had the huge bells for "Hell's Bells" and of course the cannons firing during "Those About To Rock". I was in 8th grade and needless to say it was fucking awesome.

I still love AC/DC, though the Bon Scott-era records hold up much better for me. A great band.

I like the Fall and the Ramones as well, in fact AC/DC and the Ramones are pretty similar in my mind

Bringers of many a misquoted "lyric" for me as a kid:

"She had to sanklasize, tellin' me no lies......."

"Made a needle out of me and come back for more"

The words, "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", although definitely in the king's English and shouted fairly coherently made absolutely no sense to me as a kid. None. Strangely enough, this never mattered. The album cover with the eye-bars gave me the good-creeps (as did most of their artwork.)

Even "Flick of the Switch" good-creeped me out just due to the fact that "they" were responsible for making it.

I frequently let my older brother's friend use my rocket* (we were really into rocketry, dicks) just so I could pilfer through his collection of AC/DC cassettes......stored in a Vans shoebox. He had every one (up to Who Made Who) and a wicked speech impediment to boot.

When Thunderstruck comes on the radio, I turn it up nearly 100% of the time.

OK, OK - I haven't listened to AC/DC for many years, so I gave them another chance, had a trawl around Myspace fan sites.

So... they generally have a nice kick drum, guitars are like an amateur version of Slade, words seem to have been written by an over-excited 13 year old boy, singing (either singer) is always painful.

This kind of stuff was already old and tired when they first were out, and yes it was generally liked by people who were 'fat, greasy, spotty, throw their weight around at school disco wankstains' (thanks 2207!!). Is this thread just a clever post-post-post-modern ironic joke?

If you can happily put AC/DC next to The Ramones or The Fall, why not think about buying a Hard Rock franchise, where it's all just GREAT ROCK'N'ROLL.

No, it's a thread about whether AC/DC are Crap or Not Crap. So far 103 people have voted Not Crap and 21 have voted Crap.

Man, there's no way that The Fall is as good as AC/DC, let alone the Ramones. And I haven't even heard The Fall.
