I should get a sign made so I can tap it, but if you’re not using a wound G you should try it. Most of the big guitar designs (and all acoustics) were designed for it. G is always a slight problem but much more so when it’s a plain string.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I don’t personally use a wound G string, but the other guitarist in my guitar band does, and it changed his life.

I just get wound up (hah) because it's always the one that's out when everything starts sounding off.

One super aggravating aspect is a lot of “vintage stagger” pickups have the G pole close to the strings because of the thin core of a wound G. Modern sets have a plain G there which is way thicker, so the polepiece is too close and the string is too loud. Nobody seems to realise this.

VIntage stagger pickups presents a nice opportunity to segue to my hatred of Strat knob placement. Too fucking close to the danger zone. Unless you're doing manual vibrato with the volume knob, there's no sense in it being that close, and even then it's questionable.
That's why my strat looks like this:

I've brought this up several times, but I've never played a Strat that felt or sounded good.

Seen it in the hands of some real masters. Heard it sound amazing on countless records. Cannot stand it at all.

That and a Big Muff. Can't hang with it.

While we're nitpicking features we hate: the Les Paul pickup selector position. Old Lester must not have liked to strum all that hard to think that a three way switch would never be in the way up there.

Pro-tip: remove the plastic switch cap thingy. It doesn't seem like much, but I find it makes a difference for me.

I'm not gonna name any names, but some drummers don't hear so good. Remember not to crank those IEMs, kids. Once the little hairs die, they're not coming back.

I recently worked at a big fancy rock show with a drummer from big fancy rock bands. I believe his biggest credit is White Zombie, or maybe just Rob Zombie.

This dude had IEM's + texas headphones (two monitors on each side) + a sub + FOUR thumpers duct-taped to his throne.

You may be surprised to know he still wanted more low-end.
